Is HM2 still around?

I am a huge fan, just bought a 17HM2 conversion kit for my 10/22. It got a bad rep due to marketing blunders but I am sure it will always occupy at least a niche market, as it is about as loud as a .22 LR, yet offers better performance/accuray/range for gophers.the only thing missing is a selection of bullet types for other sizes of game.

Yeah, Mines a conversion too. I'm extereamely happy with it so far. I don't know why Ruger didn't make a 10-17 HM2. I'm sure it would have sold well.

It is real easy to convert your 10-22 to a 10-17HM2. Makes shooting gophers TONs of fun!

Still alive and kicking! In spite of rumors of its impending death for the last number of years, there are still rifles and ammunition being manufactured and sold every day.

Probably because of the lawsuits that they would face if one fired out of battery as has happened often enough with the conversions, for the ammunition manufacturers to warn people against using 17Mach2 ammunition in semi autos. That being said, my Cooper in 17mach2 is still my favorite gopher gun.

Although most of my Gopher shooting is with the .22 LR, my Marlin HM2 tends to climb into the back seat of the pick up and on the longer more interesting shots, cries out "Pick me! Pick me."

A very effective round, very efficient, almost the range of the .17 HMR but half the price of the ammo.

It's not dead, and the fat lady has not sung yet.

10/17

I run an Eabco conversion kit in my Ruger 10/22 and it runs perfect as long as I feed it Hornady ammo. Eley ammo it has issues with going out if battery. I am trying to get my hands on some CCI ammo to see what it does.

I also have a CZ in Mach II as well.

I've been running CCI in mine... Never had any problems. Functions flawlessly.

I've never tried Hornady or Eley yet, I had to order ammo and my local dealer brought in the CCI. I bought all he brought in.

My Savage M2 is as accurate a gun as I have ever owned... I will never part with it... bets squirrel caliber ever created. They have sold millions of M2's, so there will always be a market for ammunition. I can still remember when I took my MKII M2 out of the box, shot three rounds to zero the scope and then put five shots through the center of the bull all through a .2" hole!

Had a T/C R55 in M2 a while back then in a moment of stupidity let it go....... but a couple of weeks ago picked up a Marlin 917m2 stainless/grey laminate from Del Selin in Vernon for $180.00 (I believe he has a couple left and is a pleasure to deal with) so I once again have a s... eating grin on my face. Oh, and yes it shoots like a dream. The trigger is actually just fine, go figure.

I have two and love them both. Looking for a 3rd if I can ever find CZ 452, Just missed out on Delselin super deal on 917 as described above for $180. He sold out so they must be selling. No idea how many he had though.

where do we get these conversion kits? sounds very interesting!

I came into mine kind of flukeishly. I ordered a McGowen match barrel, and when it arrived 4 months later, it was chambered in 17HM2. I should add that it wasn't the fault of the supplier, the barrel was custom made in the wrong caliber. Jerry at Mystic Precision was more than ready to make it right, by sending me a new barrel and also give me a credit. So after some research, and talking to the Jerry I decided to keep it. I ordered a weighted charging handle from Bits of Peices in Delta B.C. and boom, a 10-17 conversion.

Did you know that cows can fly?

If you say it often enough and to enough people, then people will start to believe it. It's the same thing with the .17M2. I have no idea why people keep talking about the .17M2 being a dead round. Maybe if they say it often enough, then it'll happen.

Kinda of frustrating actually. It's a perfectly good round and there are a number of people shooting it who enjoy it and think that it adds value.

It has a huge following in the southern US for squirrel hunters due to it's flat shooting performance to 100 yds.

Frankly it's a major step up from the capabilities of the .22LR, it's 80% of the performance of .17HMR for 50% of the price.

I'm really not understanding all of the negativety towards the .17M2 round.

Everybody should try it first, then decide if they want to kill it or not.

My rant is over!
