Is HM2 still around?

Did you know that cows can fly?

If you say it often enough and to enough people, then people will start to believe it. It's the same thing with the .17M2. I have no idea why people keep talking about the .17M2 being a dead round. Maybe if they say it often enough, then it'll happen.

Kinda of frustrating actually. It's a perfectly good round and there are a number of people shooting it who enjoy it and think that it adds value.

It has a huge following in the southern US for squirrel hunters due to it's flat shooting performance to 100 yds.

Frankly it's a major step up from the capabilities of the .22LR, it's 80% of the performance of .17HMR for 50% of the price.

I'm really not understanding all of the negativety towards the .17M2 round.

Everybody should try it first, then decide if they want to kill it or not.

My rant is over!

I was just asking if it was still around. Nobody carries ammunition for it here except the gun shop and even then it's sporadic and small quantities which leads me to believe that it's not doing so well, which impacts whether or not I consider buying the excessively cheap H&R HM2 the local shop has in stock...still considering it but more than likely I missed it.

I came into mine kind of flukeishly. I ordered a McGowen match barrel, and when it arrived 4 months later, it was chambered in 17HM2. I should add that it wasn't the fault of the supplier, the barrel was custom made in the wrong caliber. Jerry at Mystic Precision was more than ready to make it right, by sending me a new barrel and also give me a credit. So after some research, and talking to the Jerry I decided to keep it. I ordered a weighted charging handle from Bits of Peices in Delta B.C. and boom, a 10-17 conversion.

That's funny, I ordered a McGowen 10/22 barrel in .17HM2 from Jerry in Oct/2010 and when it arrived at my door it was actually chambered in .17HMR, so I sent that one back and waited patiently for another 14 months  for my .17HM2 barrel to show up, then after bugging Jerry every couple of months, I get an email saying that McGowen screwed up my barrel. They accidentally fluted it. Ok I can live with that. :D Then I wait a month for the barrel to find out that Jerry had accidentally shipped my barrel to someone else in Ont, :( so I had to wait again, eventually it showed up, and was as promised, but it took over a year longer than was initially discussed! So this has me wondering..... Did you end up with my barrel, dammit! :D

It is quite possible Courtntan.... Was it suposed to be 18" blued and fluted? Because everything was right according to what I ordered.... Except it wasn't .22 LR?

18" Blued, but not fluted, but they screwed up and fluted it. Oh well, looks like it got 2 of us on to this great calibre. :D
