Is Hoppes #9 formulated for corrosive ammo cleaning?

Don't know about Hoppes but G96 will get it done. I haven't cleaned one of my SKSs in years and shot thousands of corrosive through it, I just spray the thing with G96 when I get home. It's dirty as hell, but no rust.

Windex only works because it contains water. There is no real reason not to just use boiling water. Just strip the gun (5 min max) put all the small parts in a tub of boiling water and dish soap swish around and rinse in clean boiling water. grab a small funnel and pour boiling water from a kettle down the barrel. Lightly coat all parts with G96 and re assemble. 15 minutes max. Hoppes #9 is ok but G96 is the best cleaner/lube one the market imo. Also pick up a bore snake. they are the cats ass.
Yes. It says so right on the label. "Removes corrosive primer fouling and residue."
Not to pop the bubble, but I cleaned a CZ858 with G96 and went to the range a week later - first shot the gut jammed and failed to extract.

Someone on this site recommended Windex - I gave it a try and no problems with that specific rifle. I admit that spraying it on blued vs enameled metal would give one pause. I also make sure to wipe off all Windex and then treat with oil.
Then again it could have been a really bad batch of ammo. I remember some Chinese stuff I bought in the late 90's would start rusting sk parts within 24 hours.

No, Salt will not dissolve in Hoppes. Try it. Take a teaspoon of salt and mix it in a jar with Hoppes. Pour it through a coffee filter and see if you still have a teaspoon of salt?

Isn't there 2 formulas of Hoppes 9?
If you like the handy squirt bottle feel free to use a recycled Windex bottle, but dont for a moment think that the Ammonia has ANY effect at all.

Potassium chloride is almost completely INsoluble in ammonia.
It doesn't necessary have to dissolve the salts. It just has to carry them away from the metal. Dissolving the salt is a good idea though as it transports from the metal more thoroughly. Boiling water is great as a couple minutes later, the gun is dry.

I used to think g96 was all I needed until one day I just could not stop my barrel and gas port from rusting (858). It did not matter how much oil or brushing I used it came back. After a good hot soapy water cleaning and oiling it finally stopped re accuring. Water and g96 is all I use now
Was it designed for mercury fulminate primers or potassium chlorate primers? Both types have now been replaced by lead styphnate.

You guys have a problem with good 'ol WD40? It's cheap, smells good and hey it also works. I hose my sks's down with the stuff after a session, works great.
