Is it Illegal to have Hi-Cap mags that are not pinned to 10?

hmm in Edmonton I ran into folks who have unpinned magazine. (Even the range gun carbine magazine was unpinned with 10 rounds -USC)
It really depends on whether the provinical government bother to catch it. I'm not sure if this true but in Alberta, you can shoot auto, without people catching you as provinical gov't refused to do anything bout it.

Five years in prison. Or

just wondering if it is illegal to possess hi cap mags as long as no one with any authority ever sees these loaded passed 10 rounds??? my brother purchased a glock from a non supporting gunnutz dealer and it was shipped with 2 unpinned 17 round mags! do we go ahead and pin these ourselves? or can we just take it to the range and only load up to 10 rounds into each mag? would their be any criminal issues involved with leaving these the way they are as long as we never loaded them over 10 rounds?

disassemble the magazines, take them to a gunsmith, and have them made legal. Do this now!

thanks for the info everyone my brother has now disassembled for the mags for the time being..........i called the dealer and he stated "this is the way he received them and it is up to me to pin them" what a crock of s**t he has now caused more work by having to go out and buy a rivit gun and rivits!!!!! what a joke! my brother is pissed!!!! will ask for compensation if we every order from him again!!!! which i doubt will ever happen after that a**hole comment!

That dealer could lose their license if they were caught selling proh items so I am very surprised if this is how he replied to your inquiry! Either way CDn tire sells a rigel set for less then $20 it will take no time to throw the rivit in! Just make sure you put it in the right hole!

Cdn Tire has a cheap rivit gun with rivits for $20 or so. Might be a bit of a PITA but personally I think you might have come out ahead. Pinned mags are easier to load.

I would be sorely tempted to remind the dealer that he just sold you a prohobited device and that its his responsibility to fix it and not yours. If he continues being an asshat you could potentially remind him that his dealers liscence could disapear extremely quickly if people found out he was selling prohibs.

That being said, even though the law is stupid and I don't agree with it. Its still something you need to get fixed ASAP.

I would be callin the RCMP if this asshat dealer gave me grief about such things. As a matter of fact I would question anything that even came from him being legal. There is not a single dealer in Canada that does not know that these mags are prohibited devices, and this idiot just put you in a potentially dangerous situation. He now has no remorse and pretty much tells you to f ck yourself? WTF? Out the name of the dealer please so that no one here ever buys from this douchbag!!!!!!!

Wow!! Really! Because I'm pretty sure that the Firearms Act, and the Criminal code are Federal laws! The provincial government can't change anything here, or fight the Federal government on these issues. The RCMP is not a provincial police force, and will uphold the law despite what you might think!

what I'm thinking is you saw somone using pistol mags in an AR- which is legal. As for full auto... maybe they where pulling the trigger really fast? And thats as far as I'm willing to speculate

Why are you panicking, you are not doing anything wrong, and you do not need to protect dealer from justice system.

How about calling CFO and RCMP and reporting the dealer for selling prohibited items?

After that call dealer and ask him to send you legal capacity magazines, because you had to turn in ones that he sold you to RCMP and give them dealers name and address.

Disassemble the magazines immediately and do not use them. This is not something you want to be putting in your range bag. If the dealer refuses to exchange them for 10 round magazines he is an incompetent idiot and deserves to be charged. I'd be cautious about taking the mags to the police, if you live in Toronto or Quebec they will probably charge you too. You're probably better off eating the loss and just pinning them yourself or destroying them.

So we have a firearms dealer who could have been shut down, arrested and charged while the mags were in his posession and he is being this flippant about it???:confused:

Something stinks.

Pretty sure dealers can have licenses to import them, and have them, but they have to be pinned before they are sold obviously. But yes something stinks. Like I said I would be cautious buying anything from such an individual. Especially a firearm!!!!!!!!!!

Did he tell you you have to register the gun yourself to?????? :jerkit:

There was a store owner in Port Coquitlam who imported a couple of dozen AR mags that were not pinned...and he was charged. The store is still closed.
They also charged him with possession of illegal ammunition even though the ammo he had was legal IIRC.

Prohibited devices can only be imported for the purpose of sale to police, military and other agencies with licenses to possess them. Many dealers do possess various prohibited items for this purpose. However, you can't import prohibited mags for the purpose of pinning them and selling them as normal.

Yes its federal law I know but police unless its RCMP just didnt bother to catch it apparently. One of the officer I spoke to said "it's a waste of time, if you really want to appear news and get called stupid for rest of your life sure go get'em"

Sorry brother but you are just wrong. And encouraging or suggesting that having hicap mags or full auto guns is O.K. not a good idea.
