Is it irresponsible to fire a cherry SKS?

Well a pair of gorgeous Russian twins have just arrived from Moving Target. God they're nice. Maybe too nice for me. A 1954 Tula and a 1955/56 (undated). All numbers match, no refurb marks, and I can't see any evidence that either of them has ever been fired or issued (not even the wear one would expect if the sling holders had ever seen a clip).

So here's my dilemma: I was hoping to buy a couple of cheap shooters. Of course, when I ordered, I asked for nice, unissued, cherry ones because, hey, better to be new than old, right? But now I'm having pangs of doubt - if these are genuinely unissued should I feel like a heel for popping a case of surplus czech through 'em? Are they worth more than the $280 each I paid, and would I be pissing away the value by firing them?

Your thoughts would be deeply appreciated.

Sigh.

Put them away and call Home Hardware in Yorkton.Mine was 199.99 and 40 big ones to ship. Then you will not have any regrets about shooting a refurb.

Thier were more of them made than hairs on your head, and there are plenty of cherry unissued ones floating around. By the time they have any real value as collector pieces, you'll be long cold and dead. ;)

Shoot the damn things. :D

I don't think you should worry about value... With the 10K flooding the market, it will be decades before you'll make any significant profit selling them.
With this in mind, take them out and fire the hell out of them, this is what they were made for. And they were designed to handle corrosive ammo, they were military guns originally.

You're stressing over a couple of $280 SKS's...

It's $280 man... That' next to nothing as far as guns go... I mean really they're SKS's... add 'em to the 10's of millions of 'em floating around and really... they're worth $20.

Shoot the #### outta them and then go buy two more

I look at it this way, Guns were made to be shot, not to be traded and sold like Hockey cards. Sure they might be worth more money one day, but you could have that extra moneys worth ammount of fun with them in the meantime.

i have 3 from moving target , they are not unissued but are very nice and i can see how most members looking at them may think they are unissued.

so judging from what i got moving target , i would say if yours have touch up black paint on the muzzle and on the butt plate then fire away.

Mine is definitely unfired and still has touchup paint on the buttplate.
So, how can one tell? Unissued I think is not the right word.

Yeah, OK, you've convinced me. I wanted shooters, I've got shooters, just nice ones. How bad could that be? Lemme at that case of corrosive and I pity da foolish tin can that provokes my ire.
