Everytime I check the local area classifieds (kijiji or the "usedRegina") and see someone trying to sell their fish or deer mounts...I give my head a shake and say to myself: "Are there actually people out there that buy this stuff"?
Like really, would you buy someone else`s prize mount to hang on your wall? What would you say to family/friends?
I just don`t understand.

I tend to agree. The mounts on my walls remind me of these hunts and the good times had. Someone else's mount may look nice but they have no value for me.

read the regs and you will know the reason.

In Ontario it is illegal to sell your mounts, antlers, rugs etc. I don't know about out west? I was watching that show with the two Canadian fellows who travel around buying Antiques, they were in BC and they were negotiating trying to buy a stuffed beaver. If I were doing a public broadcast show I would want my research people to inform me of what I am legal to purchase.

Why would it be illegal. As long as the animal was legally taken, it's your property, not property of the crown like road kill etc.

It would be illegal because some level of government made a law against it. Hunting is in the jurisdiction of provincial governments so they can make laws about it, even stupid laws. Maybe they think making trade in trophies illegal will inhibit some poaching? I can understand that reasoning, though I am not sure it would work as they hope.

I wouldn't buy someone else's mount, but some people would. I'll probably never have any of my own kills mounted. Taxidermy is very expensive by my standards, and I am not a trophy hunter. I will shoot a trophy animal if one comes my way, but it'll be mainly luck, and if I never get into the situation where I feel I've taken such a exceptional animal that I really ought to spend the money to get it mounted, I really won't mind not spending that money. But there are people who will spend money on one they didn't shoot.
