Is it just me....?

You do realize that Ruger Re-Vamped the mini 14 since 1987 and they do have a lot better accuracy now, they are the 580+ series . They also make a target version with a "harmonic stableizer" on it and they are reports of them shooting +/- of an inch . They are a fun reliable gun to shoot IMHO

Didn't know that, I lost all interest in the rifle after I sold mine.
I never said it wasn't fun and reliable, just that the one I had was terrible if you actually wanted to hit a target in the same spot twice and that I think they are a little overpriced for what you get. Everyone talks about wanting it for predator control and that needs a certain amount of accuracy.
$900 plus a $260 stock plus expensive hard to find mags plus the time and money required to put a harmonic balancer and adjustable gas block to prevent it from beating itself to death seems excessive. Mine seemed way overgassed.
The one I had was the most violent .223 I've ever shot and a recoil buffer didn't help other than to prevent reliable lock open after last shot.

I did see a used ranch rifle with one mag on the EE today for $650. Someone better snatch that up quick.

I always feel the need to jump to the Mini's defence. I have a post 580 one (one of the first off the line from the new barrels) and it's fantastic... 2-3" groups with irons at 100m and all 5 on the 12" gong at 200m. Put some decent optics on it, and it's a great little plinker. Not to mention it's non restricted, easy to maintain (parts are nice and big, and reliable) and it makes an INCREDIBLY satisfying KA-CHINK noise when you let the bolt slam home... No, it's not perfect, and I wouldn't want to shoot the wings off a fly with it, but it's perfectly fine.
I'm looking for an AR platform so I can get LAR mags, but if the Mini could hold 10, I'd never want anything else.

Well said. (did I get bi%$hed out or what?!?!) I do have an M4 as well. Both are fun and different. BTW aren't ALL AR variants restricted????

If your referring to the AR180b then no, it is non restricted and although hard to find since Armalite discontinued it, (they still make and sell parts for it) it is an excellent rifle.

All AR15 and variants are restricted though.
