you could have a Bushmaster ACR converted to this caliber and use it for huntingmind my being a newb but can you legal own a .458 Socom in Canada and use it for hunting if the AR-15 is 18.5" or longer. The reason I am so curious is because that is my favourite AR out there.

That might be true, but the ACR is not an AR.
It not being an AR is exactly why you can hunt with it if you put an 18.5" barrel on it.That might be true, but the ACR is not an AR.

You could try and find a AR180b and see if somone will do a caliber conversion but still not a true AR
You're right, it's better.
I'm not sure what there really would be to discuss other than personal opinions. Guys who have used AR's for years are unwilling to learn a new platform or even give it more than a few minutes at the range before they say how much better they consider the AR. They say this because that is what they are use to (my experience) but will never admit it. This argument is universal for just about any brand. There are people that will say it is the best because they look like a fumbling idiot if you hand them a different rifle than what they are use to, so rather than learn something new that could be just as good or even better than their current rifle they say it is junk.I like the ACR - thought I'd mention that - but it would be nice to have the discussion as to how you find the ACR platform and design better than the AR platform and design.

I'm open to any assault rifle platform. The ACR is a good gun if I owned one I would definitely change the buttstock cause I do not like them at all.

Dammit, Stop that! I did not need to know that lol. Now there goes my savings! The thoughts of hunting with an ACR makes me drool... I gotta stop reading random posts hah.
It's a caliber I've always wanted and with a lot of wild hog living in Saskatchewan I want a gun that will definitely stop them.My 300BLK conversion for the ACR is running nicely now, I'll be taking a deer or two with it this fall
Very easy conversion if you know someone who can make you a barrel. Or if you ask nicely and I point you to the guy who made mine.
This sounds like a troll thread, what self respecting firearms enthusiast doesn't know that an AR is restricted in Canada? Who is so out of touch they still call them assault rifles?
We have semiautomatic sporting arms in Canada. An assault rifle is a prohibited device capable of fully automatic fire.
OP go buy a bolt action for hunting, learn to shoot and learn the laws then step up to a semiautomatic firearm for hunting.
When you're ready you can drop a big wad of cash and get an ACR and have a conversion kit made for it to convert it to 300BLK, 6.8SPC, 458 socom, 450 Bushmaster, 50 Beowulf or whatever you want. When your ready contact Ian at Herron Arms and he will build anything you want and have the classification changed to non restricted.
Why 458? Do you have a lot of experience with it? You better be a hand loader if you want one of these cartridges though, not a lot of factory options in Canada right now.
Good luck
