Is it legal to own/wear bullet proof vest?

Flea-bay .ca always has surplus kevlar vests, just beware because as stated above somewhere, not all take care of their kevlar as they should. As for why would anyone want one, who cares? They are legal to own everywhere except now apparently in BC. I see no need to own six different configurations of AR-15 at $2000+ a pop, but I don't have an opinion one way or the other if someone did. Unless it is personally harming you, mind your own business ... ;)

IMO they should not be illegal as they are purely for defensive purposes. We had a lengthy thread on this debate previously, related to the BC law introduced.

It is now illegal to own and/wear bullet proof vests in the Province of BC.
El Gordo and his cronnies are trying to make it harder for the gang bangers to commit serious drive by shootings.
Myself, I thought about buying a vest a few years ago for riding my motorcycle after being hit in the chest by a sparrow at 65MPH....mow that hurt.
Rob

Pick on something your own size please:D

This may sound kind of silly, but the first time someone gets shot at a range by someone sweeping them with a firearm i bet sales of vests go through the roof. Not to mention some pretty serious hindsight by the victim. Some people probably think its silly to wear eye ear and head protection (hats) too.

I was thinking wearing a vest and full gear and such is a good way to train? With the weight, loss of molbility and such, you would be able to experience what combat might be like? That is, for anyone interested in joining the army..

Personally, I think its a great idea to have some armed, armoured, well trained and friendly men/women in my area in case the $#it hits the fan. But NOT me or anyone I know, for I've heard organized militia's and such are illegal. And IMO, the govenment is making self-defence practically illegal..

Armour is armour, and you would have to swing it pretty hard to hurt someone. Don't tread on our rights!!!

I own one, I occasionally wear it in 'shady' areas (intended for work originally, but I got too plump to conceal it under a light dress shirt ), and it's made out of Goldflex.

Communist doesn't like it? Too f*cking bad.

http://www.theprovince.com/news/would+body+armour+gangsters/2124459/story.html

The Body Armour Control Act would:• Place controls on the possession of body armour by allowing police to seize it from those unauthorized to own it;• Create a licensing program for businesses and their employees who sell body armour, as part of the Security Services Act;• Require those trying to buy body armour to get a permit proving a reasonable need for owning it; and,• Require applicants to undergo a criminal-record check.

Just another government cash grab. Sometimes its hard to tell whose the worst thief...

well atleast if you have a permit to own it the local RCMP wont take it from you because "you have no reason in my opinion to own it"... now i can say "i have a permit" i dont need a reason.

If you keep a firearm for home defense or feel having/wearing one would reduce risk of personal injury, you should have one. If I were in a position where I needed to use that level of reasonable force to protect myself and my family, I'd get one. Just don't go looking for trouble. :p

Although a bullet-proof vest is not illegal to own, acquiring one might raise suspicion if any law enforcement agency found out.

People should be able to buy whatever they want, banning stuff just gives the "antis" more ground to stand on.
On another note as someone who wears a vest and rides motorcycles (not at same time) I personally don't think a vest would be of any additional benefit that a good leather jacket would provide. Ballistic vests aren't designed for blunt impacts or even blades for that matter.. just my $0.02

jamiejaf;3879015]"By taking away criminals' sense of security, we decrease the potential for violence in public settings" (quote from the province)[/B].

There is some truth to this quote - just not in the sense that the person meant. It is a great idea to take away a criminals sense of security. Why do criminals have such a strong sense of security here in Canada? Not because they are wearing body armour, but rather because they can practically be assured that whatever home they are breaking into, or person they are robbing, they will be completely unarmed and defenceless. Imagine going to rob someone knowing that the most they have on their person is a pocket knife (and most don’t even carry this). Not much of a fight for the bad guys Glock.

You want to take away a criminals sense of security? You allow you citizens the choice to Carry on their person. And further, install the Castle Doctrine into the Criminal Code

I would wear a vest if I worked at a gas station(to the idiot that said wearing bullet proof vests should be banned. I would have no problem with any gas station worker to be wearing a vest because they have no way to defend themselves when an armed robber comes to "collect".

Brilliant move, Gordo, now all a gang-member has to do is drive to Alberta! Great job looking out for public safety! You know what would also make the public safer? If you gave up your driver's license, you drunken f*ck

I would like a vest for working with cattle. i know Rodeo cowboys use them.

hehe... my rodeo vest wouldnt stop too much, its a leather and vinyl exterior with a flexible enough to allow mobility but rigid plast core covered in foam. They are designed to disperse a hoof kick etc... not stop a bullet...:)

I dont ride any more but if you want it I could put it up in the EE :)

i want to get one for when we go hunting, you never know what some idiot does out there.

depends on what you're hunting. bird shot maybe.... 308 or 30-06, maybe not. :p

For some reason I don't think that would sound too good if you apply for a permit. "let me get this straight sir, You need a vest because you expect some one to attack you in your home and you want to shoot them?" :p
