Is it necessary/recommended to clean a new pistol before shooting?

Steyr M-A1, good sir. It only took me a year to decide and purchase, but I am officially an owner.

I imagine you've ramped yourself up to like a dozen guns by now, eh?

I love my Steyr m9a1.. its now officially 8 months old. It appeared clean enough when i bought it, so i just lubed it with lucas synthetic gun oil. But after approx 500 rounds started experiencing failures to extract. My advice is clean it really well, oil it and wipe off excess oil. thats all it took to restore my faith.

Done and done. Well I cleaned it. I don't know what constitutes "really well", but I got the little bit of grease or whatever was on/in it off, and gave a bit of a lubing.
