I already have my RPAL but I'd like to change my references. Is this possible? One of them is out of the country and the other is anti-gun. It's just a general pain. I thought the guy from the CFC said they could be changed but that was before I had my license and before he had spoken to either of my references. Anyone know the answer to this or should I call just them?

You put an "anti" on your references for a PAL

I knew she was supportive of me learning to shoot (I want to be a cop).

If you already have your lic. why change?

Cuz I heard they call your references when you buy restricted guns and I want to avoid having to talk with the anti-gun person about it or any problems that may arise. Also, I don't want to try and track down the person out of the country cuz the CFC won't do it.

Depends on the province. I have never had a referance called for a restricted transfer

Both of my references are over seas. As long as the CFC has a valid phone number, they'll get a hold of them. Took them 20 minutes to find and interview both of my references.

I live in Quebec; if they do it anywhere, it's here.

They told me they wouldn't call long distance.

Tell them that everyone that knows you is long distance.

If they are squawking about long distance charges, sounds like they're running a little on the "lean" side. :p

Well,
I came to Canada 6 months ago, so there isn't a soul in Canada who has known me for 3+ years.
They called my references in Dominican Republic without any issues at all.

Don't know if it is a provincial thing...

Can your reference be in another province?
Plus what if your province suddenly move oversea when they interview with them what happen then?

To be honest, I have never heard of provinces moving around... =P

As for people moving around, I understand the CFC will leave a message to the references, along with a phone number and extension to call back (one of my references did). If the CFC can't contact your references in a certain amount of time it can delay your application and in the end the CFC will send you a note asking to give them a different reference, since they can't find the ones you specified, so make sure to provide a cell phone number or a number your references check for messages.

Then again, I have heard of people applying for PAL whose references never got called. For RPAL it seems to be more common.

Good luck!
