Hi,

Newb here. Taking my PAL/RPAL early June and I'm interested in a Springfield XDm 4.5" 9mm as my first handgun. Trouble is they seem very scarce in Canada. I've seen the 45 cal on a few on the sponsors websites but have yet to see a 9mm.

Any suggestions on getting my hands on one ? Can I order / purchase one before I even have my license just to get the ball rolling if it's gonna be a long wait ? Can I also order (do they exist ?) 2-3 legal magazines at the same time ?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

nice..thanks for the lead ! That's the exact pistol I'm looking for.

Happen to know if one can buy a gun before they have their license...even if it sits at the shop till I'm licensed ?

Yes there are xdm 9s, I have one and it's really nice!

Also, my first gun was purchased before I had my license, the dealer put it on hold after I explained that I was waiting for it to be approved.

great...that's perfect. I don't mind it sitting at a shop...much rather that than having to order after I wait months for the license to be approved.

I have medium sized hands...think the medium or small backstrap will work ? How do you like the gun so far ?

yep, saskatoon gunworks has a few. also, epps seems to have just gotten a bunch in a bit ago. they have 9, 40 and 45. with 4.5 barrels, 5.25 comps, stainless, black etc. whatever you desire! great gun, you'll enjoy it!

Small or medium will work fine! Actually, out of all the guns I have shot the XDM gives me the best access to the mag release, and I have normal sized hands. I literally don't have to shift my grip at all to hit it, great feature for me

Damn Soup13 beat me to it lol. I've seen them at Italian a few times, I got mine at International Shooting Supplies in Surrey. Love mine, got about 5000 or so rounds through it and the only hiccup was one of the rivets fell out of one of the mags. Eats anything I feed it. I use the small grip strap and put a slip on Pachymar grip sleeve on to get the right feel for my hands and even had a ten year old girl shooting it last night and it fit her ok even

Sounds like there are a few options out there after all....thanks for everyone's help. I think I'll order as soon as my RPAL starts being processed so that hopefully I'll be able to pick it up as soon as I get my license. In the meantime ill try a couple of the local shops suggested to see if I can handle one and get an idea of the fit. Taking my tests in 2 weeks....can't wait to get started !

One thing, the stores may not let you handle anything unless you show them a PAL so be ready for that. If you wanna try the Xd-m out, just PM me and I'll meet you at DVC and you can try mine

As mentioned, they can be had locally.
My coworker has one, and it a pretty nice pistol, magazines on the other hand......
Still like the GLOCK & HK's more though.

Ok, thanks for the heads up. Was hoping to be able to handle a few different pistols before I get my license so that whatever I decide on can be ordered while I'm waiting for my PAL/RPAL to be processed.

As for the offer to try the gun, that's really nice of you. Once I've got my test out of the way I might just take you up on that...at your convenience of course...thanks again !

Good people here :D
