Me and a buddy of mine had a go at making some "Moscow Match" the other night out of some Czech mil-surp. We pulled the steel-core bullets, and replaced them with Hornady 123 grain SP's. It worked out great!!! Ended up with 'ready-to-hunt' ammo for about $0.40 per round, and being the steel-case thing, that spares the agony of searching for the brass after the SKS or the Mini-30 flings them into the next time zone. Heck, I'd even pay extra for that convenience!!! I just tried them out at the range today -- similar velocity, and nearly identical point of impact as the original mil-surp was.
Which lead to this thought. I'd guess, that getting primed steel cases in 7.62x39 from whatever factory in Russia/China/etc that turns them out, would probably be fairly cost effective, if it could be done in bulk (10,000+ at a time). Does anyone know if this has been/could be/is being done? And if so, who I would talk to about that?
Thanks,
