Is it possible to guess weight from a picture?

Guess? I can guess without even seeing the pictures: 54 kilos.

O.k, I've looked at the pictures now, so I'll guess again: more than 54 kilos.

If you can weigh another deer whole that looks to be approxiamately the same size, or compare it to like-sized objects in a photo of another deer that was weighed, you might be able to estimate reasonably, but I don't think there is much point since you can't ever determine for certain how close your guess or estimate is.

I don't want to rain on your picnic, but why would it be suggested the deer be entered in a contest?
Also, what kind of contest is governed by the weight of a deer?

Wow...you can't be from Ont. Big-buck contests around here are BIG. They are weight based (field dressed).
Usually put on by the local bars. Some great prizes and $$$.
One bar offers $1000 for the 1st buck weighing 300+lbs. The winners are usually 260-290lbs. :D
 
Well Beef and 4831, I never knew about it, but the gun club I belong to has a friendly little contest every year for biggest buck, species of fish and the likes of. Just a simple little plaque or something. More of a fun thing, and the only ppl who can enter this little fun contests are only the members of club. So in reality, its only a small thing anyways. I know there would be no way that thing would stand a chance in the rest of the province or country for that fact. The biggest one out there so far weighed in at 248 lbs. Like I said, just some fun amongst friends I suppose.
 
I've ran a leader board for a big buck and bull day here in S. ontario for the past 3 years and we only score racks (by FROW) deer and moose only. this annual event is one of the biggest in Ontario, if not the biggest. I have never heard of a contest where they measure by weight.

I guess you learn something new every day...

Must be east/west same as hanging them head up/down.

At the most eastern part of province, the contest goes by weight. There is a buck and doe competion.
In event of tie in bucks the rack with most points decide it I believe.
They usually have really good prizes as well.
 
I'm pretty sure the "King Buck" contest in Poplarfield, Mb. is based on weight.

Not that I ever manage to bag a contender.....:rolleyes:
 
Just what we need - more people hunting just for bragging rights. When will people learn that there is absolutely NOTHING good about competitive hunting!

It isnt actually taken that serious by most, most guys pay the entry fee in the event they bag a big one, then they can weigh in and maybe win a cool prize.

Its not so much competitive (unless you can get a deer to run onto a weigh-scale)...but "bragging rights" are absolutely involved. :D
