Is it possible to replace the top cover latch on an SKS

Is it possible to replace the top cover latch on an SKS? Mine is too hard to "open" and would like to replace it if possible. It's an early refurb 1950.

Yes, sksman dot com sells them
But having a rear cover latch that is tough to close & open is a good thing. Just remeber to have the action closed when tring to undo the latch. Other wise it will be a royal pain in the rear.

my top cover required a screwdriver being pounded by my palm to open it, i took a med-file and very lightly trimmed the material on the bottom of the back part of the top cover so that it would sit a lil lower

AlexV: i wouldnt bother. satain gave good advise, hard to remove top cover latch is a good thing as long as the top cover is snug, loosey goosey is not a good thing .

i always use a long plastic for leverage, plastic wont scratch .

I use an M6 bolt and nut right now - it works fine and is simple to figure out how to get more 'leverage' on it. Cheers!

The tighter the better. This goes for a few other things too

Don't worry about it, it will loosen over time. Mine took pliers to move and 3 months later I can open it by hand.
