Is it safe to give out your PAL number?

Just got my PAL today...

I already bought a shotgun from a big online store this afternoon (not worried about this one) but I want to buy something in the exchange forum and I assume that the seller will ask for all my informations + PAL number.

I'm no tin foil hat but is it safe? Could the guy do something like changing my address and register firearms with my name and infos?

Someone would need a lots more info on you to actually do something like that. And only a dealer can reg something to you with out you accepting the transfer.

How else are they going to transfer the gun to you?

Yes it is fine but I wouldn't give out other CFC req'd info like place of birth.

Telephone Transfers
It is generally simple to transfer and register a firearm to a new owner by telephone. Call 1-800-731-4000 and select the transfer option from the menu of services. Please have the following information ready:

full name, address and firearms licence number;
the name, address and firearms licence number of the new owner; and
the registration certificate number and firearms identification number of the firearm, as indicated on the registration certificate.

All the seller needs is the above info. I usually ask for full name, address and phone number from the seller (even call him) BEFORE I do the EMT.

Some don't like that, I have cancelled deals because of that.

Place of birth required from the dealers by CFC. When dealer calls CFC, that the only call is needed, but the dealer needs place of birth (not sure if always).
