Is it too early to dream about Gopher season?

The lack of photos in this thread is appalling. lol

Ran out of film on saturday.....(battery died in iphone), or I'd a had 127 pics to show. What a hoot. used a total of 150 rounds of 17 hmr. Shooting them rested it as good as fun as you can have.

Last week didnt get a chance to. Only had time for a stinky dirty yote. Should have time tomorrow after I shoot some new reloads.

I guess I should make sure the 17's all good to go. :)

The wind picked up shortly after I got into the field and they went to ground, but got a dozen before that happened.

And a bit of time for philosophizing... Apologies for the absolute crap sound, just had my phone propped up on top of a fence post.

First gophers of the year for me.

Took me a couple of shots as the first two gopher I actually missed. heh

First one for 2017

Only got 9 for the day as I skirted the fields that Ill hold out for when I dont get there at 3:30 in the afternoon. Didnt help that it was cloudy and super windy out.

There 4 of us out today in southern Alberta with our bows. We got 43 between us, including my some with his first 2 with his bow. Next time we go out will be with the 22lr's.

Cool and windy, no concentrations of gophers, spread out pretty thin, but managed 59. CZ's will be taking a back seat to the Anschutz 1710DKL. A couple of pics for those less fortunate.

It's been almost 6 years since I moved from AB to Vancouver Island and I am sure the Gopher population is grateful (I just shoot paper now). For years, these three were my squeaky furry critter eliminators:

Anschutz 64 Silhouette .22LR (25-125m)
Marlin 17V .17HMR (50-150m)
Remington XR100 .223 (100-200m+)

I still think .17HMR is one of the best varmint rounds made. It devastated gophers with one shot (not so many flopping tuna's like with the .22 LR), and is much cheaper than .223

Nice posts folks!! I will live vicariously through you.

Got out for another shoot last tuesday and tagged a few more gophers.

Farmer wanted me to shoot some around his year old cows (Im sure theres a proper name for em) After shooting 10-12 on one side I walked around the pen/bales and after making a full circle I found some magpies chewing on some of the carnage I left behind. Scored one right away and another a little later when it couldnt resist a free meal. Score about 30 gophers and 2 magpies in all.

I think Im gonna make more of a effort to take down more magpies as they are ALOT harder to shoot cause soon as they see any movement they are gone, so a 100-150yrd shot is a must for em.

Magpies get so involved in the feast, they forget the dangers, until the shot rings out. Good for you Was out in one of my regulars this aft, beautiful day, 110 gophers done. Funniest thing I ever saw was male trying to do a dead female. Run up to the dead, I thought it was going to start eating the dead as they often do, but no, laid down behind and tried, I had to intervene, popped him. Have a pic to show the resting place, unaltered.

Couple of us got 45 or so yesterday between us. Still not up in full force yet. Too cool and windy. And still too soon for the small ones yet. Very impressed with my new CZ 452 Varmint .22LR though. That thing is accurate even with bulk ammo.

^my favorite gopher gun too...though that Anschutz tactical/trainer is awfully distracting! :) What does your CZ like to eat most?
