I heard that one guy used a XCR in MAGPUL - Art of the Tactical Carbine is that true ? If so how did it fair? What other Ar-15s did they use? And where can I buy the video?:)

yes, in one of segments you see a guy sporting a XCR along with another guy that was using an AK, the video shows occasional glimpses of those two guys in the background, they were no where near the center of the action.

Just off the top of my head Wolverine Supplies and Dave's surplus carry the video, pretty much anyone carries Magpul product will have it, if not Amazon.com will have it for sure.

Yes, this is absolutely true. I literally just finished watching it about an hour ago.

The XCR looked like it faired fine - although the individual started off using flip-up irons and ended up putting an EoTech on it part way through.

Didn't seem like he had any more or less malfunctions than anyone else - but who knows, since the vids are so heavily chopped to allow for more complete drill coverage (i.e. taking out repetitions to cut overall length while still allowing a full spectrum of drills).

I really enjoy Costa's style when he's instructing or demonstrating - I'm virtually identical when I'm coaching football, and for years the guys I've coached have told me my intensity (and a bit of fun I throw in, much like Costa does) is contagious.

Fun but very, very businesslike. Get intense when you're in the drill, but relax at the same time - no egos, no browbeating. Everyone learns at their own pace, but transitions from drill to drill quickly.

I liked both Handgun and Carbine I... soon, I'll be trying to get ahold of Carbine II.

For sure, I was just ribbin' :p. He seems like an excellent teacher, and sure can shoot! Carbine II is good, they skip the beginner stuff and the participants are all pros. A good buy, fun to watch and educational. Not a lot of variation in gear though, pretty well all M4s w/T-1 Micros... not that it matters much I guess.

I'm definitely looking forward to Carbine II. I really enjoyed Dynamic Handgun, and find myself adding a lot of its drills to my regular training routine (when I have the outdoor "horseshoe" to myself, naturally).

Chris has an excellent teaching method.

I took the Magpul Dynamic Night Fighting/Teamwork class, and have taken classes with him as a student (LAV class), he totally outshot the rest of us - he can really shoot.

The thing to note about Chris and Travis is they have a real passion for this, and it comes out in the way they teach. They aim to minimise the movements to make things the most fluid and efficient.

If you've ever seen Jerry "The Burner" Barnhardt talk/shoot/teach it is very similar. (However Jerry is truely in league of his own).

I know talking to Chris, that none of the non-AR system have faired well in classes, he has had about 12 XCR's come through classes. Part of this he agreed is the user, as they teach specifically to the AR, and there methods are optimized for it.

Also (and not to knock the XCR owners) most of the people who really shoot are using an AR platform, the hobbiests are generally the people with non AR platforms, and the lower skill/experience level really comes out in high round count classes.

I can believe this... I mean, I can shoot circles around anyone else I shoot with (especially on a dynamic range when we can set one up) but the skill being shown by Chris and Travis is just staggering.

I shoot my AR15 like my life depends on it, because I feel a good knowledge of my AR15 (frankly) COULD save my life someday if SHTF. I'm non-military and I've never been to the sandbox, but I've trained - informally - with some boys who have been and some who are there now. While the learning curve was steep at first, I found I fit right in after two sessions or so... and then got a real fire under my ass to find out more and more about proper dynamic shooting. Eventually I became the guy demonstrating and passing on the new drills/knowledge, and then I REALLY got a passion for things - because now I was the guy everyone was watching (and I'd better not f*ck up). Also, I find having to explain the WHY of what I'm doing makes me learn it front-to-back and back-to-front... and then knowing the WHY helps me tailor the WHAT to my individual needs. I took it as a great compliment when a buddy who was going back to Iraq to rejoin the PMC circuit (and is an ex Royal Marine from 42 Commando) wanted me to run him a mini-course on the AR15 platform so he wouldn't appear such a "knob" when he got there - having used the SA80 in the RM and the MP5 in his first stint as a contractor.

Even with all that said, I'd probably feel pretty maxed out in a Costa/Haley dynamic shooting class - even an introductory one. I mean, I can run-n-gun... but some of the stuff they're doing is just phenomenally skilled in nature. The level of detail is astounding, and it's just a pleasure to watch. The mindset talks alone are worth listening to until every detail sticks in your head... if you took even just that part away from the vids, you'd be doing well.

And, for those who want to check them out on YouTube (or on your discs if you have them) the outtakes are EPIC! :D
