Is it worth it?

Based on a spreadsheet I pulled together with reload v/s factory costs, for the 2000 40sw, 2000 9mm and 500 308 you'd prolly save about $600.00 reloading those 3 caliber / quantities. As others have said, the larger the round, the more savings. I definitely couldn't afford to shoot 338Lapua if I didn't reload (or 44 magnum for that matter).

For me, it's not worth my time to reload 9mm right now, since we still get good quantity of the Win white box stuff. If that ever dries up, I'd prolly start, but only then. If you start loading a larger quantity, obviously you're savings go up.

If you start re-loading, you'll probably end up shooting more - it'll be easier to rationalize given the lower cost per round.

Based on a single stage press, plus dies, scale, powder dispenser etc etc, you're probably looking at a 1-2 yr payback for the equipment cost.

For me, the benefit is shooting calibers that I prolly wouldn't if I had to pay regular price. That and knowing I get consistency in loads (accruate to the accuracy of my scale) means I end up having more fun shooting. There is something zen-like in re-loading, you can't rush it, so you have to get into a deliberate groove. It's a nice non-high tech / very mechanical activity in this day of gadgets, smartphones and adhd personalities.
