Back in 1993 I bought 3 cases of Winchester Wildcat for practice ammo...and the last of it is going down the pipe this winter. I dunno who I have to blow to get ammo these days but I did manage to snarf 2000 rounds from Cabelas a couple weeks back. I also picked up a new Ruger Mk III and hope to run it in that.

Just looking at them they seem to be a little higher quality than my 22 year old Wildcats, but looks can be deceiving. What is the consensus of the pros here on the rimfire forum?

They had a run of double primer and powder, they were recalled. This was a year ago iirc.
Anyway the m22 was 49.99 when it came out. Since then its gone up to 64.99.
At 5¢ a round it was awesome. I find its a little hot but it is marked 1288fps.
Abit dirty but better than remingduds.

My buddy recently picked up 5,000rnds of the M22 (I'm pretty sure he didn't blow anyone to get it). He finds them a little hotter so saving it for his semi's. There's been reports that some of the M22's were extra hot(double charged?) but he hasn't come across any yet.
I'm sure the M22 ammo will run fine in your MKIII. Mine hasn't been picky with any HV ammo so far…..even Wildcats.

M22 have the black copper plated round nose and function quite well.

It is my favorite winchester 22lr. It will cycle well in a semi and fairly accurate in my bolt action.

I bought 4k of them last year. Used 1k of them. They work well in stubborn semis. Find it to work well in those guns that like CCI minimag.

M22 works great, I use them for run of the mill shooting. My 10/22 likes them and is very accurate as well.
I have an Anschutz that does not like them at all and my 77/22 lives on them exclusively.

Works great in my heavy barrel 10/22 shoots smaller groups than anything else I have tried so far. My 10/22 seems to eat anything as long as it is reasonably clean but I notice quite the difference in groups sizes with different ammo. My rifle seems to like M22 and federal bulk but seems to hate everything else Winchester makes.

Bought 1000 rounds last year and my GSG and 10/22 function really well with them, no FTF or FTE. I would purchase again.

Yep since AE has gone up in price. Was under $200 at wss for a case a few years ago.
Only cheaper ammo is goldenduds and 555.
Oh and dynapoiny from walmart if you can find it!

$60.00 before taxes at Flaherty last Monday. Ruger MK111 hates them, Colt Woodsman eats them OK, 10-22 and the big mags love them, GSG says "MORE MORE". Little Badger says "I'm not hungry, just one at a time please.". (I crack myself up)

Well thanks for all that fellas.

I think I paid $64 and change for a thousand at Cabelas. I would rather buy by the case, of course...but nobody seems to be able to sell them that way these days...I will restock once the supply chain recovers...

I have found the problem with my sh@tty M22. I have the recalled garbage :

Jack Ammo explains it here. He contacted Winchester and apparently some rounds are over-charged and they get stuck in the chamber. This is exactly the problem I have. Happens at least once in every 20-25 shots.

I fired 30 shots out of a 10/22 the other day and had 3 duds. I pulled the bullets and the priming compound had came out from the rim area and mixed with the powder. I don't know if this was a function of the firing pin dislodging it, or what. The pin on this rifle is pretty fat, I'm going to thin it for a bit deeper of a strike and see if the issue goes away, if not, I've got 5000 rounds of fail.
