It might be the picture; you can still see a bit in the groove between the gas block and the barrel (I wasn't able to get all of it off, unfortunately).

The only part I couldn't get it off from was deep in the groove around the gas block. There was also some on the feed ramps, but I up-ended it in some G96 and I think I got most (all?) of it off. There's still some discolouration there, but I think that naturally occurs over time anyway.
