I have a 14.5 wilson barrel with the 556 markings. The markings are not on the side, but near the top at the 2'ock posn. Also, I had a standard a2 FH before, with crush washer, and the bottom (no holes cut for dust prevention) indexed properly, but now that I replaced with a YHM comp/fh the bottom does not align up. Even with a new crush washer it doesn't line up. should I be looking at a spring washer? With the FH where it currently sits, if the barrel was rotated such that the markings were horizontal, then seems like the bottom would align

I'm comparing with my cq556 and the norc barrel as well, and it looks like they use a spring washer, not a crush washer. I wonder, should I be looking into using a spring washer instead.

the norc cq uses a form of washer that looks like this:

I was thinking to use the same...but I can look into peel washer as well. I just found a thread on another site re the very same yhm fh/comp and teh on/off until you get the right fit method with the crush. I will give er a try.

Peel washers are preferable

But crush washers can be used - you just need to crush them to index (crush with the flash hider and torque - not hammer it...)

I've had a noveske upper that had the barrel roll marks at the 10 o' clock posn. While it sort of annoyed me at first since all the other uppers (my buddies) that I've handled and saw on the web had the markings perfectly at the 12 o' clock, the barrel shot very straight and accurate.

My only guess is that they didnt align the roll marks in there jig when they were drilling and pinning the barrel extension

peel it is. brownells sells in packs of 5. do I really need to start with 5, or just 1?

The order from brownell came in, I "peeled" off one layer, and indexed it to 15ft/lb due to me not having any loctite. thanks for the recommendation. now I need a jiffy marker to de-shiny the washer.
