Is my friend pulling my leg?

If he says he shot that with a crusty old Lee Enfield with iron sights (hell, even with a scope which I highly doubt he used?) I call BS.

That is 6 shots sub MOA supposedly at 100 meters with a military surplus rifle, iron sights and commercial ammo!?

I would say if he could even replicate that at 50 meters he could win that shoot out.

There is only one thing more prevailant than the egos of some members on this site and that is people vastly exagerating their shooting skills :D

I say bull####.....

I don't know, we watched a friend who is FAR too in love with Enfields shoot a group like that with the original sights and military ball. Can't seem to talk him out of that piece, for some reason . . .

When the Australians won a postal Enfield match at Gunboards as an American I tried hard to remain calm and composed but it didn't work.................

The next time I went to the range I took my frustrations out on a koala bear.

He needs to do it at least twice to prove anything. If we were able to pick and choose our best groups ever, we'd all be marksmen.

One three shot or one even six shot group proves nothing. You can sometimes pair a gun that shoots all over the place with a shooter who's the same, and come up with what your friend produced. Granted with six shots the likelihood of the above is very small, but it's only one group.

I use a minimum of two, five-shot groups to establish how my gun-shooter combinations shoot.

i have shoot like that at 50 yards with my no4 mk 1 and cast loads (the only way to get any reeal good groups with a lee enfield) main reason there not the best groupers is because fast firing and cordite heated up the barrel quick and in turn started to wear the throat out im calling BS on this one too

I took him out for his first time shooting maybe four months ago, helped him purchase his first rifles, taught him basic bench technique, breathing and trigger control.

This tells me everything I need to know. Definitely bull####. In order to consistently make a group like this with a Lee Enfield he would have to:

1) Just happen to get a rifle that was bedded by an expert or a rifle that just happens to be mechanically exceptional and treated very well over its 60 year lifetime.

2) Just happen to pick ammunition that is perfect for this particular rifle or spend a lot of hours hand loading.

3) Be a very naturally talented shot who with some focused training could become a world class shooter.

Really, Lee Enfields are on par with other battle rifles of the age. It's not typical for a battle rifle to shoot under 2" let alone 1" and you have to have someone working the rifle who's a really good shot to get the most out of it.

Tell him that if he can replicate that or even shoot close to that group (say under 1") while you're present then you'll buy him 3 cases of beer, but if he fails he has to buy you four cases of beer of your choice as punishment for being dishonest, maybe even mow your lawn or something too.
