I have a really nice M38 Swedish mauser and today I recieved my mint condition bayonet to go with it. I noticed the last bit of the barrel on this mauser is threaded. After trying out the bayonet, i can tell that I am missing whatever theads onto the end of the barrel. The bayonet fits loosely over the muzzle. What amd I missing for this rifle that makes the bayonet so loose when installed?

That's the way they were issued, you have M38B (modified for the blank fire attachment). The thread protector is a commercial invention and never used by the Swedish Army.

I never tried with my M96B but I never got a bayonet for mine as she has the threaded muzzle and the bayonet may damage the threads.

or the flash hider / eliminator that screws on.

There were two plastic thread protectors made for the Swedish Mausers that have the "B" threaded barrel. One is like a simple short tube that is open at both ends, and the other is closed at one end.

The Swedes used wooden bullets for Combat training. They were not supposed to be fired at anyone at less than 100 meters, but accidents do happen. A Blank Firing Adaptor was issued for this Combat training, and there are blades inside the adapter that shred the bullet and blows the wooden pieces out through holes in the side of the Adaptor.

Because of these blades inside the BFA, if a live round is fired through it, it will hit the shredding blades. and can cause severe destruction to the BFA, the rifle and the shooter.

There are threaded metal sleeves available that can be screwed onto the end of the barrel to protect the threads. If you can not find one, check on E-Bay.

Threading was for BFA.... :)

FYI, if you do get the blank firing device and mount it, do NOT shoot regular 6.5mm ammo, it is only for the wood bullets.

I have a bunch of those wooden bullets and a BFA, but it never occurred to me to shoot them........
