Just got this garand. Haven't fired it yet. The op rod has some finish wear on it, and it looks a little bent to my eye. It passes the tilt test with the stock off. With the stock on it will not close or open completely without a little help. Here are a couple pictures of the op rod. Is it nothing or am I right to suspect it's bent?

Heheh...Just cleaned my Garand

Op rods are funny lookin if you look down there length...2 very shallow bends

Its normal...If the gun functions OK I wouldnt sweat it

Each op-rod was intentionally bent, by hand, at the time of installation. It is said that the op-rod fitters were among the most skilled and highly paid people in the factories.

If you un-bend it, it will likely cease to function.

Without replacing the spring and spring guide, tilt the rifle up and down so that the bolt and op rod can move open and closed. If they move freely all the way both directions, you are, or rather your op rod, is OK.
