Is my scope broken?

Hey guys, need opinions on what to do. I bought a used Bushnell 10x40 off the EE and went to sight it in yesterday and things went horribly wrong. I noticed the top turret was fairly tight and while adjusting it the whole thing screwed right out. Not knowing enough about optics, can I just screw the turret back in and go on with my day? To me, it looks like this has been done before because I can see aluminum shavings inside the threads as if it had been taken off and put back on a few times. Is this a warranty issue, or is this scope that I just bought garbage?

I think Bushnell carries a lifetime warranty, give them a call and see if you can send it in to them for repair or replacement.
 
Might be best to send an email to Bushnell and see what they have to say.....What's the word from the seller?
 
That don't look good, check you tube for some info on it, always some one on there with how to stuff. The worst thing now is where did the shavings make it to, maybe suck them out, if theres more then it was probablie cross threaded sometime or not exactly same thread combo. Aluminum threads mar easily so be careful what you do to it now.
 
Hey guys, I haven't talked to the seller yet cause I figured I would ask for advice first. Just figured if it was easy to exchange for a new one with Bushnell I would just deal with it myself.

I'll call Bushnell today to see if this would be under their warranty
 
I went into this thread thinking that it was just a turret that had been loosened to reset the markings to zero after sighting-in.

I just about crapped when I saw the photo! Bushnell has some detractors on this site, but I have always found their handling of warranty claims to be excellent.
 
On the several occasions when I had brought scopes in to their repair/warranty facility in Markham, Ontario I was never asked when, where or how I had purchased the optic. The most recent occasion was a couple of years ago, and the scope was decades old...replaced with a superior newer product, no questions asked. Personally, I wouldn't volunteer any unsolicited information...just in case.
 
I would think from looking at it that the seller had to know it was fubar I had this happen once and I new it was NFG . I have also dealt with Bushnell warranty and it was not a good experience I sent them a $700 scope they sent me a $300 scope . When I said It wasn't acceptable they asked me for my original bill of sale . Since I did not have it I got violated.
 
Would the scopes interior now be contaminated with moist air and metal shavings? Sure makes you wonder about the sellers knowledge of the defect. I would be pissed.

well it sure as hell wont be fog proof anymore, they are nitrogen purged at the factory. Even if the turret can be put back on at home, this scope will fog with every temperature/humidity swing.

Some would call this a clue. It sounds like you've had more than one warranty claim with them. That would indicate a poor product line. The OP's pic would also indicate that Bushnell puts out a poor product. Some people never learn...
