Is my shot gun worn out

I have a maverick 88 12g with a 18.5 barrel. Shouting slugs at about 50ft figure about a pattern the size of a dinner plate.As well if you grap the barrel and the stock you can rotate the barrel just slightly. Never misses a beat never jams etc.Bought new around 1991. Thanks
 
The barrel should not rotate in the receiver. Something is not right there.

As for accuracy, what are you using for sighting? Just the front bead? or do you have rifle sights installed? Also what type of slugs are you using? 3" heavy hitters or 2 5/8" managed recoil? The most accurate slugs I have found for shooting from a smooth bore are the Canadian made 2 3/4" Challenger slugs. 2" @ 50 yards with iron sights from my auto loader.

pumps are not precision shotguns.
the barrel does move in the action ever so slightly and that makes them inherently inaccurate.
it's the nature of the beast. (I know, your mileage might vary and you can shoot 2" groups at 100yds)

HUH?

Neither of my two maverick 88's barrels rotated in the receiver once the cap was tightened down, neither do any of my current 870s, my 500 or my Browning BPS. All of them are tight.

And I said 2" groups at 50 yards, not 100 yards. Go troll elsewhere.
 
Going to give it one more try.Only has the Bead sight. Mostly 2 3/4 slugs older CIL I was shooting off and a couple of Brenneke slugs I was trying.Might be the excuse I need for Mossberg 500 combo.
 
Kinda was thinking that way anyway.But really will give it one more try.Ok maybe.Just not sure if I want one that holds more rounds.Would still like to use it on the odd clay as the Browning doesn't get out in the bush that much as it is my trap gun.This one is the cabin bear gun etc.
 
Ya I'm kinda kicking myself for not buying a higher capacity model. The salesperson should of picked up on my ignorance when I asked for a tube extension. But come to think of it they walked me over to a rack and were like" nope we're all out". Double ignorance. An excuse to buy two guns. Wish we could get the high capacity kits here.
