My young lad is looking at taking a PCDI Canada(Professional Career Development Institute) home gunsmith course. Is this something that is recognized as a legitimate course or if he takes his diploma to a potential job interview as a gunsmith, will they just laugh at him.I won't let him spend the $$ on the course until I get some insight on this.:popCorn:

Waste of time if he's hoping it'll get him a serious job in the real field! A year or two at a serious gunsmithing school will get his foot through the door. Better future to point him towards becoming a machinist and using that background to do some gunsmithing.

Check out the stickies at the top of the gunsmithing page.

I would follow what the last poster said, guide him into a machinist or similar trade. They use a lot of the same tools, machines, and equipment to build relevant skill sets. Additionally if times are slow, he can't get enough business (doubtful) or god forbid a government swing screws us over he will have a safety net for employment
