Is Price Haggling Gone from Gun Buying

Haggling is one thing but there are buyers who give a big sob story of how they really want the gun but can only afford to pay a certain amount, hoping that the seller will feel sorry for them.............then 2 weeks later it's on the EE for a few hundred more. Any future PM's from these types don't get answered by me.

Also, buyers must keep in mind that a used gun is just that.......used. If you want one like new, you pay new price. Pretty simple.

Thats not haggling. A more appropriate term would include the word pathetic.
One should never concern oneself with what others do with an item after you sell it to them unless it is a dog or other live animal.

The thing I don't understand is the shops that offer free shipping on items but if you go into the shop to buy it they will not discount the product by the ammount of the shipping. When that happens I feel like saying fine I will take it but you can ship it across town for me.

I don't want to piss anyone off as I'm new here, but can a dealer please help explain the cost difference between the US and Canada on firearms. Is it taxes, fee's, shipping, etc that in some case doubles the price?
Thanks

If you watch where you buy in Canada, you can buy many guns and scopes for around the same prices that the US companies normally charge.

I wouldnt haggle on a brand new item, If I dont like the price I go elsewhere, As for used items? Haggling is all part of the fun, That's why I go to lawn sales and auctions.
Anyone ever watch American Pickers? Its all about the haggling.

Just remember when haggling a price not to be insulting or ignorant about it.

I was always curious about this myself until I asked a couple dealers who do the same thing. Their answer made sence. I was told that the average store front gun sale takes between a half hour and an hour when you take into account the customer cominng to look at an item a couple times. The average time do do a mail order transaction takes about 15 mins from start to finish because the customer knows what they want. You are not been punished by buying localy, the guy on the phone is been rewarded by spending alot less time making their purchase.

When I worked in a Co-op that also sold oil field supplys we had a discount for placing phone or fax orders. The old farts who came in to drink coffee and take an hour to buy 5 oil filters did not understand why they did not get a discount because the guy who sent in a fax order for 10 filters got free shipping. The actual shipping charge was about $7.00 and it took us about 10 mins to do this order.

The fact is that mail order stores do most of their buisness thru the mail and their walk in traffic takes up the most time for least amount of profit. If you can walk into a store and make up you mind in about 30 seconds, mabey then you can ask for the discount. Keep in mind too that these stores can run just fine without a customer walk in area, so they do need something alittle extra to pay the over head. Dont kid yourself though, what you pay for shipping a rifle across Canada is about twice the price of what a major Canada post customer pays. So concider yourseld out about $10.00.

it is all greek to me

a couple years ago I was looking for another Ruger 1B. Canadian price around $1k, US price around 1K exchange rate was around IIRC 72%

so, the US gun was way more expensive than the Canadian. I remember chatting with some US friends at the time that they should come to Canada, buy the gun and take it home. they could save hundreds... the answer was they cannot get them back across the border if bought up here.
now that our dollar is par, the price of a Ruger 1 should be around $800. But it is up around $1100....

again... greek to me. I don't buy the 10% stuff anymore. someone is making money.

Digital cameras make seeing the item less important.

one can take many pics and send them or post them.

most times the pics will show more than you will see with the naked eye.

you have a few minutes to handle the gun in less than ideal light.
or you have as many minutes as you need to view the photos and can adjust the pic to see any detail you want.

and if you need more, you can ask.

I recently listed a firearm, and within a few hours I has responded to 3 requests for more pics of specific areas
