Is reloading 7.62x39 worth it?

And what happened? ;)

It died, just the same as if it had been hit with any other gun. As a matter of fact, if she shadn't hurried down to check, it would have been DRT. Took 3 in the lungs. It ended up running a long ways before dropping once it was spooked, but that was a good thing, as it died right in a logging road, not in the swamp it was near when she shot it.

I reload for my SKS.
1. Lots of shooting ranges don't allow steel core bullets.
2. Non surplus are just as expensive as any other cartridge.
3. I cast my own bullets.
4. Rounds are non corrosive.

Yes ........best with moose to leave them at least 1/2hr after a hit,let them lay down and fill up .If you run right over they can get up and are a ##### to shut down due to the adrenaline.......Harold

Just wondering if reloading 7.62x39 is worth it? If so what cost per round are you getting and where are you getting brass and projectiles? Thanks for any info

For off hand target shooting I don't think so. Milsurp ammo can be purchased for about 20 cents per round. I do a lot of off-hand shooting with this ammo at 100 meters with the objective of keeping shots within a 6 inch diameter circle (3" groups using a rest). It's good and cheap shooting practice. I use my Remington 799 or Ruger Mini 30.

I can assemble hunting loads using PRVI brass cases and PRVI 123gr soft point bullets for about 70 cents per round. PRVI 123gr factory loads are about $22 per 20, or $1.10 per round.

I'm a member at an indoor range.
We can't shoot steel core so many people shoot brass cased boxer primed PMC and even Lapua.
Most don't collect their brass so I do.
I rarely shoot my SKS. Less than 200 rounds in 4 years but when I do it's quite accurate with the right load.
I use Hornady 123gr soft points with IMR 4198.
It's a great rifle to bring when you take new shooters out for the first time.
