hi, like the title said , i'm looking for a 1911 ( in 9mm for the ammunation price ) and i have a budget of less than 1000$. I find this model on firearm outlet canada http://www.firearmsoutletcanada.com/rock-island-armory-tactical-i-1911-9mm-5.html#.WM8GN0YrLIU and would like to know if someone had one of these?...

i try the search fonction and didn't find anything related.
thanks

I find rock island and Sam to be quite similar in quality..I really like my Sam omega .40, but if I had your budget I'd look seriously at Sti or even sig..

Saw one a guy had at the range. He wasn't very impressed with it. A lot of more reputable manufacturers make the 1911. Shouldn't be too hard to find one in that price range. Check the EE if you don't mind something used.

His budget is "less than $1,000"....where is he going to get a STI 1911 in 9mm for that? The Trojan is up over 2100 now. I'm not real knowledgeable about the various Sig 1911's but aren't they like mid teens and up?

I would have a look at a Sam( Shooters Arms Man.) or perhaps even one of the new Canuck pistols, haven't heard a lot of good about the RIA. I really like the Seraphim Armory line also, any of the 3 I mentioned are within your budget

Norinco 1911 will match anything at twice their price. Forged, not cast frames. Very good fit, finish, reliability, trigger pull and accuracy. You owe it to yourself to check out one of the newer ones in person.

I have a Norinco NP29 and a STI Trojan. Both 9mm 1911's. Both work great. If you want to stay under $1000 I'd get a Norinco and add a trigger job, etc and built it to what you want.

I have a ria gi 9mm. Its my main go to. Accurate, smooth and has been reliable. I use wilson combat mags with it. I wouldnt hesitate to get another RIA.
Other people I have let handle it were surprised by how good fit and finish/feel for a sub $1000.

I also have a sti ranger 2 in 9mm.. I picked it up for $850 used a couple yrs ago... They sometimes pop up for under a grand but not often.. Also great feeling pistol but expected for the cost of it.. Both are great but my go to is still the RIA

I wonder if it's the QC that varies more with these guns.

I've had 3 SAM pistols, and they all had big QC issues. I won't touch those guns with a 10 foot pole, especially at today's prices.

Yet I've a friend who adores them, and has never had an issue.

I was looking at RIA myself, but am prett gunshy when it comes to these Filipino guns.

I am leaning towards the Ruger SR1911 when I decide to "pull the trigger" on a 1911 purchase. I just really like the appearance of the Commander sized SR. Lonesome Donkey posted a good review of his matching SR1911s. He has the full size and commander version. If I'm not mistaken these can still be had for under $1000.

Remington R1 Carry Commander 45 ACP is an awesome pistol, i did compared it side by side with both my Custom Les Baer/ Colt Special Combat Govt and this Carry whorth a lot more than the 1K i paid for it (Epps)... JP.

A slight correction here.
I owned an SR1911 full-size pistol and feel that it is a really well-made pistol, but I never owned the commander model.

Can you be more specific about the quality control issues of the S.A.M. pistols?
I would be interested to find out if these are minor or really problematic.

My only negative point against RIA is the weight. Quality of the steel used is likely the culprit. Being a copy of 1911, fit, finish and function is reasonable. if they can cut further on the weight using a better ordnance grade steel, I will take one without any hesitation. RIA/ARMSCOR is one of the oldest firearm mfg company in the Southeast Asia region. I would not buy one 25 yrs ago. But after equipment upgrades, quality has gone exponentially up.

I have had a Rock for several years now, albeit in .45acp, and it has performed flawlessly. Accuracy was very good out of the box as well. Last year, at a gun show, I saw a pair of consecutive serial numbered RIAs in 9mm. Wanted them badly and asked the seller if he would hold them while I went to find an ATM. He declined and when I returned the pistols were gone.

I have a stainless SAM commander length (SAM Sigma 9) in 9mm and it is awesome. One of my favourite 9mm. Beefy little gun, nice weight to it. I only use Tripp mags. Not sure if that makes a difference or not but it has been completely reliable. Mine is fairly new so perhaps there were some early growing pains?

I concur. I bought 3 SAMs, 2 stainless Commanders (9mm & 45) and a 40 S&W Omega). All were tight, rock solid, well finished & accurate and reasonably priced. Then I bought a stainless 9mm Thunderbolt. Total piece of crap. Poorly fit, barrel chamber looked like it was cut with a rat tail file plus other problems too numerous to list. Wolverine exchanged it with no problem but the replacement was just as bad (it even came pre-idiot scratched so I didn't have to do it). It went back too. Plus these guns were nearly $1000 with tax in. No more SAMs for me. Their QC has obviously gone in the toilet.
