It can go both ways. If you're seeing coyotes in the country, they're typically very timid and will take off if they even see you across a field.. If you see them hanging around the city, they'll likely be less afraid of you. To answer the question regarding shooting a coyote in the city in the event of a child attack... You'll be breaking laws by simply discharging a firearm too close to a dwelling, not to mention laws regarding shooting inside city limits. Then again, if you're saving a child's life, worry about the charge later. Personally, if I saw a child being attacked by a dog or coyote, I wouldn't take the time to fetch my gun. I'd be intervening immediately, with my EDC knife or my hands. Whatever it takes to help the victim.
