Is Shooting a Coyote Legal??

It can go both ways. If you're seeing coyotes in the country, they're typically very timid and will take off if they even see you across a field.. If you see them hanging around the city, they'll likely be less afraid of you. To answer the question regarding shooting a coyote in the city in the event of a child attack... You'll be breaking laws by simply discharging a firearm too close to a dwelling, not to mention laws regarding shooting inside city limits. Then again, if you're saving a child's life, worry about the charge later. Personally, if I saw a child being attacked by a dog or coyote, I wouldn't take the time to fetch my gun. I'd be intervening immediately, with my EDC knife or my hands. Whatever it takes to help the victim.

Now one more question for everyone, if you see a coyote in your backyard, and you have a clear shot to kill it, do you take it, or do you let the animal go??!

Now what if that same coyote attacked and killed a small child or family pet a week later?!
Would that still have been a smart decision?!!

I say shoot the animal. Coyotes have no business living in urban areas

Esco, you seem to be too fixated on the notion that the 'yote is some kinda blood thirsty crazed killer. I hunt them as a hobby, and have grown quite aware of their behaviors. They are an intelligent and opportunistic critter. The media tends to over-hype, but there have been RARE cases where they have attacked a child. They live quite well in the Cities because of an abundance of food - including the odd cat and small dog. Out here, a group of three or four animals have learned to kill small to mid-sized cattle. I believe I have dispatched them, but who knows.

This is not RAMBO or YOUTUBE or a video game. You are not in danger. I would advise that you get the notion out of your head that in the city, you should grab a gun and kill it if you see it. Leave that to the authorities as they are at least half-ways trained - you are not. If you see one in your yard open the door loudly. It'll run like hell. If it keeps coming back, then you have something it wants. If you really want to dispatch with a gun, call a cop first and ask for permission - oh but wait, you already know you're not supposed to discharge a firearm within city limits.

Fluffy may be in danger of becoming a meal, but you certainly are not. Stop over-reacting and stressing over this issue, if you really want to lose your guns that badly, then drive down to the nearest cop-shop and turn them in for destruction.

Seriously, you can't discharge a firearm in a city. There are a lot dangers from a lot of things in the city, ie dogs, people, but we can't just up and shoot them.
