Is SKS still a good buy?

Canadian Tire off Grandview Highway is worth checking out. I don't know about the quality of their stock but I got excellent service when I bought from them a couple years ago.

Wait for the Black Friday sales and go in person to all the local shops to see what they have. The only place I would order from online would be Corwin Arms or Weimajack on the EE here. Otherwise the online ordering is a lottery with some retailers using it as a way to clear their lesser quality stock.

You sound new to the SKS platform, I would highly recommend going with a person who knows what to look for; at the least make sure you do some reading before you buy.

For a rugged, ultimately reliable, dead simple, cheap to feed 30 cal semi auto, you'd be hard pressed to find a better rifle for the money.
Everyone should have at least one for every member of the household, along with a few crates of ammo put away. LOL
Hungry/tactical teacher used to say about the m14/m305..."Don't buy 1, buy 2 or your #### will fall off"
With the sks and how affordable they are, just buy 5 and weed out the best LOL
Overall a reliable, fun rifle and also a perfect rifle for drawing in new shooters. Everyone gets a kick out an sks the first time they shoot one.

200$ for a rugged tough as nails, reliable as the sun, semi automatic that shoots the cheapest centerfire round available in Canada?

everyone with a pal should own one

Bang for your buck, you just can't beat the SKS in Canada.

Claw-hammer reliable, reasonably accurate (if using hunting ammo not milsurp-and with the milsurp ammo it's the ammo more than the gun), enough power to take down deer, and cheap easily acquired ammo. It's also very easy to maintain and the accessories for it have to be seen to be believed.

To quote one of our favorite CGN'ers (Tactical Teacher) "Don't buy one, buy two!!!" :p (sorry Barney I had to :d)

Darn... 45acpking just beat me to it!

Don't buy ONE! Buy TWO of them!

We were blowing them out at Cabelas back in July 2014 for $170 apiece. Cannot remember how many we sold, but we sure moved them babies out like mad. :)

They were in such fantastic shape, too!

Cheers,
Barney

I'd offer an appropriate cliché, except I don't think there are any left remaining to use!

Oh wait! Got one! They're built like a tank!
