I am shooting trap at the range when a bunch of people shows up. They walk right onto the range speaking loudly and laughing their heads off, take over 4 other bases and start shooting simultaneously with me. One of them is taking a video of everyone shooting including myself.

Where did this take place? What did you do about it at the time?

Are you really complaining about noise at a gun range?

No he is complaining about shooters being rude and walking onto a range already in use from what I read. Etiquette would be to wait until whomever is shooting has completed their round and then use the field or ask between stations if it is ok to join in. Also talking and filming on a round is best left to do on your own as well unless it is agreed upon by all on the squad. Talking in the gallery is one thing and shooters need to learn to tune it out as it is not sensible to expect quiet in back of the field however talking, joking, laughing etc on the stations during a round is just plain rude and disrespectful to others on the squad. I usually explain to those at our club that if they prefer to shoot in that way they should do so on their own squad. From the way the OP describes the actions that took place his shooting was rudely disrupted by a few who are lacking common courtesy and shooting etiquette. I think your best option would have been to find the range officer/executive member and kindly bring to his/her attention immediately what had just transpired. At any club I have belonged to the other shooters would have been talked to and shown their actions lacked respect and courtesy.

What did I do... What did you expect me to do? Argue with them? I packed my stuff and moved to another trap range.
I'd have taken it up immediately with the club executives and management. What happened is not acceptable anywhere. Where did this take place?

X2, and yes please tell us...where did this take place?

I dont know if it is a sign of the times but it seems to me the past few years that there is alot more of this type of activity goes on at clubs. The last time I shot at Orillia I was amazed at the amount of lack of courtesy towards other shooters I witnessed. Our club is the same these days too. I went out to shoot sunday and after watching the proceedings I decided to go shooting pigeons on a few farms instead.

Agree with you both....................

But I bet the OP felt intimidated as he was alone, and there were more of them, not that he should have been in any kind of fear or intimidation, but it's probably how he felt, especially if he was a younger guy and the rest were older, but that just makes it so much more unacceptable if it was a bunch of older persons doing this kind of nonsense, they should have known better.......

Well, yes, as when everyone is wearing hearing protection, the pull commands cannot be overheard if there is loud ambient chatter and laughter. Standing there with raised shotgun yelling pull again and again is the opposite of enjoyable sport.

I'll post that only if there will be no positive resolution from the club execs.

Actually it was the other way around. I did feel intimidated being alone in the boonies with a crowd of young men dressed like gangsters.

I'm a bit confused here, what was the release system, was it a button, and if it was, where was the puller?
Voice release would have thrown 6 times the birds than the trap should have.

We only have twp trap layouts and one skeet layout, and you can be that it would not happen at our range, we have a dedicated RO each Sunday and keep a tight rein on things, that being one.
However, we don't get the volume of many ranges either, maybe 40 shooters a day.

Voice releases definitely end idle chit chat on the field! Sure did work for our club when we went to voice release! Members didnt want the price increase for targets to make up for all the targets being wasted......LOL!!

Whatever works!!:D:D
