Hey guys, been thinking lately of getting a Marlin in 35 Rem. I know this rifle/caliber is pretty popular south of the border, but nobody sell's them around here and I didn't see any at the on-line dealers. I asked the owner of my regular gun shop if he kept this type of ammo (he does'nt sell Marlins) and from his reaction I think I'm the first customer to inquier about this caliber. So does anyone know who has these rifles in stock and is 35 Rem. ammo that hard to find? Thanks a bunch! :)

Don't know who sells them, they are on the site for sale now and then..
I have no problem getting 200grain ammo....mine is a Marlin and one of my favorite guns I own... Federal and Remington make ammo for it.... sure your dealer can order it in.... it hits like a freight train and deer are allergic to the round......lol.... Not a distance rifle of course, anything outside of 150 ish and you have to lob them in....lol... Get one, you wont be dissapointed!!!

It is a good cartridge, as talon mentions.

In southern and central Ontario, most ammo dealers would have a box or three of .35 Rem on their shelves. I see you live in the Gatineau, I would be AMAZED if LeBaron in Ottawa did not stock it all the time. I was only ever in there once, but they had all sorts of ammo.

It is a very nice round to reload, and I get good accuracy with the ones I have made up with 200 gr spitzer bullets - I have a Remington 760 with a box magazine so am not worried about flat-point bullets in a tube mag kind of thing.

I also have no idea where a person could buy a new one, I try never to buy new guns......:p

That's what I'm going for, a good brush gun with a nice uppercut! As for Lebaron, I've just checked their catalog and I did'nt see any 35 Rem. ammo.
Since I don't do handloads, I could be ordering ammo from SIR, but that will drive up the cost...

Still wondering who has the rifle in stock though... I bet will finally find one and he's gonna be selling them overpriced

.35 Remington

I've got a Marlin 336CS in .35 Remington, I've had it for 34years now , I think mine was made in 1959. I wouldn't sell mine for anything , it's a great bush gun ( 200 gr. bullets ) effective range is 150 yards . Shot a whitetail with last Nov. one round was all it needed. I was at Lebaron's last Oct., and they didn't have any ammo for it , and told me they weren't going to bring it in anymore , because they don't sell much of it . It is a better round than the 30-30 , 32 special. It never became as popular as the others , had to get a couple of boxes at Ellwood Epps. It's worth hand loading the .35 , and the accuracy from the Marlin surprises alot of people . But, I was reading about Marlin's NEW .308 express rifle and cartridge , sounds very impressive , and looks like it will bridge the gap between a bush gun and a rifle that can be used out to 300 yards (same ballictics as .308 ) there's 2 models , I think I'd prefer the blued one with the 22 inch barrel , rather than the SS model with 24 inch tube .Anyone right now who's looking for a rifle for hunting in terrain like Ont., should look at the new Marlin .308 express. LOL Joe

I've got a Savage 170 in 35 Rem, sweet gun, a pump action but has a tube mag so I use the Leverevolution ammo, kicks like a mule though.

You think that kicks like a mule? I've got a 14" Contender in 35Rem. Try touching of 50 rounds out of that baby in an afternoon....

I have a Marlin 336 in 35 Remington with XS sights and scout scope mount with Leupold's extended eye relief scope on it(using quick detach rings) that is a joy to shoot. Ammo is commonly available in many Alberta gunshops and sporting goods retailers. Good bush gun, but can take deer up to 250 yards if I do my part.

Yes Alive and well in my area anyway. I shoot a remington model 8A IN 35 REM. iT WAS MADE IN 1919 AND IS MARKED HPD ( hamilton police dept) Still shoots just great and it does slam a deer down at 90yds. Great cartridge!!!!!! JITC

Sorry for the wrong steer about ammo at LeBaron's. I find it incredible that they do not stock it! I suppose they don't sell a hundred boxes a year so it is not worth their time.....too bad.

There is a fishing/hunting store in the Masson/Buckingham area, he should have some ammo or be able to get some. I think Marlin is the only manufacturer right now. He should be able to order you one from his supplier. I shoot a Win 356 and love it more power and reach than the 35 rem.

If you are not eating, check out these entrance and exit wound pics made by the 35Rem loaded with a 220SpeerFN bullet in a deer shot through by a shooting buddie of mine fall 2005. He was using his 35 Rem loaded with this bullet at just 1950fps - awesome tissue damage resulted but only around the immediate wound channel so not much meat was lost he tells me. His purpose in using this caliber/bullet combo was to try and anchor the deer so as not to allow it to run far on to nearby lands with no permission to hunt (Manitoulin Island,ON). The terminal performance was as expected and proved to be quite satisfactory for the purpose he feels.

I use a Remington 600 in 35 Rem. and handload 200gr Hornady spitzers to maximum loads, they come out of that 18.5" barrel with authority and have not failed me yet. It is a great cartridge and I highly recommend it for deer and black bear. I have never recovered any bullets and like the picks above the tissue damage around the hole is very light. In a bolt action or pump this round can be pushed quite a bit and gets pretty close to the 358 Win for sheer power.

You must be talking about Fern sports, thanks for the info, but I have to say that I vowed never to buy from him in my lifetime. Why? Eleven years ago I went to his store looking to buy my first shotgun and I was totally disgusted at the way he treated me. He made me feel stupid and I beleive he treated me with less respect than he would older customers, I was 18 at the time. So I said F**k this place, it's bulls**t, I'm outta here! Since then I have purchased many firearms and that old bastard will never see a dime from me...

But I did find a store, who did'nt advertised that they selled Marlin's and the owner was more than helpfull... In fact let me say that L'archerot has given me the best service I've ever experienced in the Ottawa/Gatineau region. I'll be placing 2 firearm orders with him soon, including a Marlin 336C in 35 Rem.

As for all you guys giving info on this interesting caliber and/or firearm, thank you and please keep sharing! :)

As soon as I hear the ammo isn't available in some caliber, I steer completely away from it. Others, will steer right for it, like there's something magical about it and it gives them warm fuzzies just owning a rifle in one of these! To each his own I guess.

I just figure that there are so many good calibers out there (are there any bad ones?), why bother with something difficult to find? A bullet in the chest, even from the old .30-30, puts down deer cleanly. Sometimes they just drop right there, sometimes they run 100 yards. It has more to do with the particular deer you shot and where, and not the caliber you used.

My last fall's deer was shot at 35 yards in the chest with 180 grain .30-06 Winchester powerpoints. It blew a 2" exit hole and mushed up the lungs to a soup. The deer still ran 50 yards before piling up. Go figure.

There is already a Winchester mod. 94 30-30 in the family, so I wanted to try something new. I was also considering others than the 35 Rem, but in the end it's the only caliber that meets my criterias and is available in a lever gun and that I can buy factory loads for! For example, I had considered the 338 fed. and the 358 win. ;)

I think the 35 Rem is going to make a bit of a comeback based on Hornady's new LeverEvolution ammo - it really ramps up the ballistics of the cartridge. I've been looking at a new Marlin 35 myself - of course I'll buy any lever rifle just because....................

The .358 Win is available in lever guns, including the BLR and Winchester 88, not to mention Savage 99. Factory ammo is widely available for this chambering as well.
