  • No, it's useless, just a stop-gap between the 9 and 45. Meh.

In the endless pursuit of the "PERFECT" hand gun round, like any other new ones, ,357sig, .38super [this one was more for where poeple weren't allowed to own .45acp or like military chambered guns,i.e Mexico],ad so on.

.357 Sig is a cartridge designed to meet the performance of light .357 mag rounds in a semi-auto. A good round but not perfect. Anecdotal evidence shows it to be a great barrier buster though. Compared to 9mm and .45 anyway. .38 super was the cat's ass back in the day (1930s). Today it's used in fancy race guns to meet a certain criteria. Nothing "perfect" about it.

Any chance you're both right?
At least that it was developed by Jeff Cooper and Norma, and
then the FBI tried it but decided to move to .40.

I don't mean to sound like a #### but your link only proves my claims. It wasn't developed for the FBI. It was just adopted, then replaced by the .40 S&W as the 10mm was too much for your average FBI agent.

This link/quote also concurs:

1973 Cooper and Whit Collins started talking about it.
1978 Cooper and Thomas Dornaus and Michael Dixon started development.
1984 Bren Ten available
1986 Miami shootout which left two agents dead
1987 Colt Delta Elite 10mm
1988 FBI's Firearms Training Unit: 10mm best law-enforcement cartridge
1989 FBI selects 10mm as standard service cartridge
1990 .40 s&w created to match FBI 10mm Short powered specifications

While Colt's "adoption" of the 10mm was definately significant, what really pushed the cartridge into the spot light was the FBI's selection of the 10mm Auto as its standard service cartridge. Once the FBI declared that the 10mm Auto was "the best law enforcement cartridge available" the 10mm became "THE" hot police cartridge and law enforcement agencies across the country started looking at it for their own needs.
