Is the .416 Ruger the NEW KING of the .416's?

I wouldn't expect anyone to dump thier H&H to buy a Ruger, although some have. I know I did, but it had more to do with the rifle than the cartridge.

Just liek when the WSM's came out. No need to dump your favorite 300WM for a 300WSM, but if you ar ein the market for a new 300...

What is he rebarreling to?

To be honest, I really don't know , he does have a reamer in 416 on the Ruger case but he was talking about taking the Ruger out to 423 or 470.
I don't talk to him often and he doesn't have a computer.
I think the chap who cuts his reamers works in Oregon, they're buddies.
My brother is a big bore "nut " and hunts in grizzly country.
When it comes to his rifles " too big is just enough "....

I am very interested in the 416 Ruger/rifle package will it be King of the 416's the answer is "no not ever" just like the 375 Ruger will never be King.

The 416 Ruger will possibly fill a nitch that I am looking to fill though have to see the rifle and handle it a bit. :dancingbanana:

At last your battery will be complete now that you can fill that huge void between the 375 and 458...grin

I have everything filled that is smaller than .375 may as well fill this little gap as well. :D

I wonder if there is a black/gray laminate stock available for the rifle?

The .375 H&H is always going to be the King of the .375's,the 416 Rigby is always going to be the King of the 416's.
The rest are wannabe's, get over it.

Yup, given the history behind the 416 Rigby and it's proven "african stopping power" over the many years it is hard to even look at another 416 even if ballistically they are better.

Why did you have to spoil a perfectly good thread with a WSM reference? The Ruger magnums are relatively sensible, beltless offerings. The WSM's are short and fat. Regards, Bill

LMAO!:D
I bet you've spent more than your fair share of hours cussing that little fat pig while trying to get a customer's rifle to feed perfectly! :runaway:

As much as I like the big 416 Rigby case any 416 that can drive a 400gr bullet 2400fps (at reliable pressure) is 416 enough.

What I really like about this new cartridge is that in a few months there will be a whole bunch of cheap short little 416 rifles for sale!
The 416s make more recoil than most guys care to deal with.

Bill. have I mentioned recently how much I continue to LOOOVE the 300WSM you built for me? COntinues to impress me...ALthough at the rate I shoot it, I may be due for a re barrel soon!:p

Ballistics dont' make a King, otherwise the .378 Weatherby would be King of the .375's and the .300 RUM would be King of the .308 calibers!:p

(Or maybe one of the Lazzeroni SUper Scary Bird Cartridges!) ;)

hmmm yes this is too true. I forgot about those crazy Lazzeroni's, they are way too much.

If we are going to be serious about "The King", perhaps the Ruger cartridge should just be opened up to .458. I don't know if it would match the Lott for velocity, but it should be a good step ahead of that glorified pistol cartridge the .458 Winchester.

Ruger should have had enough brains to market the .416 Taylor 20 years ago as they made one 77 for Ken Waters.Maybe the gun makers will see fit to build a 9.3x62 as a standard chambering....................Or Ruger #1 in .470 NE.........The rest is re-inventing the wheel..................Harold
