Is the 6.5 x 55 Swede a do it all cartridge

Because I am weak, and could not walk away.

Had bought one before that had many surprises the owner had not told me about. Like a butt cut well shorter than the original LOP, scope base screws with heads so stripped I had to drill them out, etc.

Not so this one. Besides the handling marks on the stock and floorplate its very clean.

A Trijicon Accupoint 3-9x40 with amber triangle will sit on it some day. Pretty practical big game rifle, but classy.

As long as we’re talking about 6.5x55 rifles, here’s an unusual one that I recently acquired. It’s a Schultz & Larsen M1990, which is a Schultz & Larsen rifle built on the Husqvarna 1900 action, one of the finest actions ever designed. The action is the Viking Arms improvement of the 1900 action; the barrel is S&L as is the stock. It differs from earlier 1900s (Husqvarna, Carl Gustaf, Viking Arms, Antonio Zoli) in being all-steel, with steel bottom metal and detachable magazine.

This rifle would have been built in a very brief period in Schultz & Larsen’s history after the earlier excellent rear-locking rifles (M54J through M68DL) and before their new (and current) line of front-locking switch-barrel rifles. I’ve never heard of an S&L rifle built on any action other than their own, and so this rifle is somewhat of an anomaly. It’s in pretty-much as-new condition.

Update to post #138.
Kiddo smacked a good one, 697 lbs of moose meat at the butchers.
This bullet broke 2 ribs and was under the off side hide, 145 grains left. Another lung shot was a pass through!
One more bullet will go in the butchers jar, lodged in the offside scapula.
6.5x57 woodleigh 160 grain at about 100 yards.

Has anyone tried RWS Jaktmatch ammo in 6.5x55?

I shot some at the range a few weeks ago. I got it on sale at cabelas a while back for a killer price. It was fairly light recoiling even for 6.5x55, had no problems feeding/ejecting, etc.

It was very accurate in the old swede i was shooting, i was able to put about 10 rounds in about a 2.5" circle. I don't shoot on sleds or anything like that, just a front rest and try to mimic hunting shooting as practice more than chasing 1/2" groups so for me it was great.

Just had my sako barvarian carbine out today. Man I just love that gun cartridge combo. The old 6.5x55 just shoots so nice. Smoking groups with 140 accubonds and almost same POI with the ballistic tips. Not my elk/moose gun but for deer, she’s my fave.
