Is the ACR worth it?

I've been searching high and low for info on the Bushmaster ACR. I've seen on a lot of American gun owner forums that the ACR is not held in a very high regard south of the border. Some people love it, but a lot of people hate on it.

I am strongly considering buying one but am unsure if it is the right way to proceed.

So my question is - Do you think the NR bushmaster ACR is worth it? Or should I go another avenue with the NR black rifle?

I was also thinking of going the swiss arms route but am finding it very difficult to find a new one for sale.

Short answer - yes. Very nice guns. Great ergonomics, reasonably accurate, very reliable, and while not exactly light, at least not excessivel heavy. Pretty well-balanced if you go for a lighter-profile NR barrel.

Why not! I have one! Its ###y as hell
Don't judge the ACR based on USA feedback, let's face it if we could own an AR15 non restricted thats all we would own. But we can't so we look for other platforms.

The ACR is an accurate beast. It is an expensive beast. It is a heavy beast.

My mods are geiseile super acr trigger, dlask NRbarrel, and the RPM handguard.

If you do get one, dont get the DMR, get a restricted one and rebarrel it, it'll be lighter. Also don't load it with heavy optics, thats why I just have one of my T1 aimpoints on it. With that in mind it's a 8.5 pounds rifle unloaded which is about the same as a heavy barrel AR with a heavy optic.

(I have a swiss as well, and an APC coming in next week so...)

I have no complaints with mine other then the weight, at 10.6 lbs. as pictured below (9.8 without the bipod) its on the beefy side of things forsure but accuracy, recoil and general fit and feel are superb, with the Super ACR trigger it shoots beautifully. I wouldn't sell it but if I had the option of the APC223 that Wolverine just brought in when I got my ACR I likely would have sided on the side of B&T. Parts are on short supply for the ACR as well so keep that in mind, I managed to get everything I was looking for but it takes a bit of digging. Can't comment on any warranty support of Bushmaster as I haven't needed it "knock on wood". Since the intro deal with the APC is no longer available if you didn't want to spend the extra coin I'd say go for the ACR.

Thanks for the responses guys! I do agree that they have the AR-15 at their disposal, which would be the perfect rifle if it was available to us in NR.

The ACR is looking more appealing! The one I was looking at had a re-barreled dlask arms 18.5" barrel on her.

one thing I noticed was that it had a fair amount of slop between the upper and lower receiver. Is this normally a big deal?

Dont get one with dlask barrel. Search on here and you will fibd out why. Arms east and herron uses match barrel while dlask uses a regular green mountain barrel.

Mine is the arms east version and it shoots beautifully AND the gas valve works

Dlask needs to be on S setting for it to cycle properly, thats just the way it is, dont ask why it works, it just does.

no issue with upper and lower slop as you say

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "for it to cycle properly"? Like it won't cycle at all, will be prone to jam? Will cycle but ruin the rifle over the long haul?

I have owned all most all NR black rifles, except the Jard, AR180, RA M96, x95 (will have one soon) and APC.223. I will firmly say that in my opinion the ACR is the best NR option available for us.

Factory support has been poor up until this year, and as such the US opinion and aftermarket support has been poor. In this last year however, Bushmaster has made some interesting moves, releasing the factory DMR, and also releasing factory complete barrel assemblies in 18.5", 16", 14.5", and 10.5". US opinion also suffers greatly on anything that is not an AR, because AR's are cheap, modular, and have no specific restrictions unlike canada, so there is little motive to adopt anything that is not an AR.

Aftermarket has also seen the introduction of 4 variations of carbon fiber ultralight handguards and just anounced the carbon fiber lower from Nexus Tactical, and 2 aluminum handguard options are offered from Canadian manufacturer RPM Tool. Caliber conversions are available from Ian at Herron Arms.

This year is rumored to be "year of the ACR" after many were seen at shot this year, so expect to see more cool things for them soon!

I never get tired of seeing that rifle ontwentyish.

I haven't shot mine as much as I'd like to so far, but when I have it's accurate and reliable. I went all-in with a Herron Arms Krieger barrel conversion and it's shooting well with .62g green tip; I don't reload.
Since I spent money chasing maximum accuracy, I thought a variable low-mid power scope made sense, but like others here have posted, I'm leaning towards swapping the NF out for a lighter/smaller optic to lighten it up and speed up it's handling.

I really disliked the adjustable/folding stock though and went fixed. As a left handed shooter, I found the hinge on the right side uncomfortable.

Still want to build up a spare parts kit, and hope small parts availability improves.

I think it's a keeper, based 90% on the fact that it's Non-restricted. If the AR15 was NR, I wouldn't even consider the ACR.

Oh I forgot to mention that I disliked the safety that was stock before the DMR as well, I've seen the factory made some improvements so I'm interested in that but I swapped mine out with a 3D printed one from a gentlemen off the ACR forums in the US. For anyone looking for a change PM me and I can give you his info. It came to 30 or 40 dollars to my door after the conversion if memory serves correct. Its not perfect as you can see in the pictures it doesn't perfectly line up when on the fire position but its very rigid and much better to flick on and off with your thumb while shouldering the rifle. I'm super happy with it I must say, first 3D printed part I've seen and the quality is truly surprising!

Cobra, do your prefer the enhanced rail on yours over the basic?

I'm probably one of the few who doesn't actually mind the quad rail - mine never had the basic handguard though, as it was an 'enhanced' rifle out of the box, like most others. I stole the folding stock from this gun for one of my XCRs, and put the basic non-folding stock on this gun as I never really adjusted or folded it anyway, and I kind of like the look of this stock.

Would you guys say the Herron Arms barrels are the best ones to buy? What sort of price point are those generally at?
