Is the Browning X-Bolt a good rifle?

I try to keep the posts direct and to the point so guys that are operating on less than a full deck can understand them. I glad to see it's not been in vain. Thanks for coming out.:jerkit:

Well it sure is not Northern Rancher that is not playing with a full deck you need to to a have a look in the mirror to see the real half a deck. You should be real proud of yourself in all your tough guy internet splendor. I have never seen so far on a site like this such a child like display.
I can hardly beleive what you are spewing. imagine suggesting that people that own Brownings are mentally challenged.
I can hardly wait to see what you next spew out and I am sure you will spew. Me thinks this one will get locked down. Sorry other members but this one got me going

Seems I remember a while back, a Browning A-Bolt (II?) factory .223 rifle with the BOSS system and a 36X Leupold was used to set a world record at 100 yards from a bench.

Anybody else with more details than myself?

Edit: If I ever stumbled upon an X-Bolt with the 2010 Shot Show limited edition carbon fibre stock in LH and 358,(yeah right!) my wallet would immediately be lighter.

I know this may be a ridiculous question but I must ask it here.
Has anyone seen the 2010 Shot Show Limited Edition X-Bolt with the carbon fibre stock in a LH variant?
My midget mind is considering finding one of these in 308 & having it rebarreled to 358.

don't laugh please

They are quite popular with people that know very little about guns. Wonder why that is.....

I too am direct and to the point, I would like to know the cons on these X Bolts JJ 65? I've been thinking of picking one up but I'm concerned with the 1 in 12 twist in 308, I would like to try the heavier bullets in it.

I am trying to figure out what is wrong with a factory glass bedded, well stocked, well built rifle? There may be some personal preferences (i.e. stock shape or plastic magazine) that some people may not prefer but the X-bolt is a very well made rifle...

I see the cabin fever "my opinion is a fact" posts are well under way this winter. What rifle do you like, that isn't a "highly polished turd", and why is it the best thing since sliced bread?

Was shooting a 270 WSM x-bolt stainless stalker yesterday, was shooting sub 1" groups at 100 yds with factory federal 130gr. (I think) soft tips.

Very nice rifle, accurate as all get out, smooth action, very nice trigger for a hunting rifle, reasonably well priced for the quality.

Haven't found any downsides yet.

It seems that there are Trolls in every forum no matter where you go. None the less I pulled the pin on a new Browning X-bolt Stainless Stalker (aka:Highly Polished Turd) from Prophet River. Most of the feedback is very positive and this coupled with the experience with my A-Bolt made the decision easy.

My sentiments exactly sparky!
I've been on the hunt for a small case varmint rifle for a while. Previously 22 Hornets were not on my short list of interesting varmint rifles.
But the reputation of this Browning A-Bolt Micro Hunter was too much for me to ignore.
I can't wait to shoot it!

PS: I love the X-Bolt Stainless Stalker in the Limited Edition carbon fibre stock. My two concerns, not available in LH and not in the calibre I wish it to be in. Kudos for dealing with Prophet River, Clay often has accessories & ammo I need to purchase.

I handled one at Bass Pro very recently.
IMHO, my only beef is the plastic magazine.
They've gone from the ungainly hinged floorplate/metal mag of the A-Bolt, to this cheap option of a easily removeable plastic magazine.

Everything else looks great.

I'm not sure I'd read much into a change from steel mags to plastic mags.

Tikka has plastic (poly) mags and they are really tough. Buddy of mine in moose camp has one and I never hear a word of issue.

I like steel as well mainly because it matches the gloss finish on my rifle.

Are the costs of plastic mags any better than steel ones?

love my x bolt. Would be glad to buy another one.
The mags could use a bright orange stripe in them so I can find them beside the truck lol

Of course......I am a fairly new shooter, so my rifle is not nearly as good as some.
I am not as smart as some, or as fast as some, or as good looking as some.
Nor as proud.
I love my 700's and my 660 and my M&P too. My kids love their .22's

My objective is to handle and fire as many firearms as I can, and encourage everybody else to do the same.........it's just plain fun to spend a day at the range.

I am sure you will love an x-bolt...and if not, it will sell fast on the EE and you will find something else you love to shoot.

HAVE FUN!! The target will be the judge of how well you fit with your rifle.

I've only handled an X-Bolt breifly. But the more informed posts seem to back up the durability of the magazine material. Considering all the nice features of the X-Bolt, this appears to be a moot point now.
I am unsure of the cost for the X-Bolt mag, but A-Bolt mags run about 70 dollars each.

Cheers!
