Is the C7A2 collapsing buttstock available aftermarket?

Okay, can anybody help me out here?

A guy who's proclaimed intent is to build an AR15 as a semiauto C7A2 replica asked me who makes the buttstocks for our rifles. I told him my best guess was that they weren't commercially sourced, but I would take a closer look at one when the Guard turned out for Remembrance Day.

Well of course, after the services and leaving the Cenotaph, the beer started flowing, the trapline tour of Legions began... and I forgot all about them. Priorities... And the QM is unlikely to open the weapons vault just so I can look at a buttstock.

Can anyone confirm that buddy isn't going to be buying a C7A2 collapsing buttstock on the market anytime soon? Or can he actually find himself one legally (or something that looks like it), that didn't fall off a green truck somewhere on its way to the sale?

He was asking about handguards as well, but I'm pretty sure I've seen those for sale somewhere.

Thx

Yeah, I think the C7A2 is just the standard collapsable AR, M4 style butt. Like enefgee said, the Colt type. You could always buy one similar and dye the plastic green.

It is similar to the old Colt fiberlite as others have said. The main differences are that it's green and has some texturing on it, possibly to reduce shine. I have come across a few that were Colt (N 1 marked) but green instead of black.

Best bet would be to paint a black Colt one. Commercial size clones are out there that are green as well.

ETA: The real ones are not available on the aftermarket. Colt Canada doesn't sell any of it's products in Canada.

By the way Rivetc78, they aren't made in some Asian country. They're made by Colt Canada. And they don't sell to civilians. Green AR furniture is commercially avail. So's tan and black and the front rail and...see Wolverine or Questar.

There are companies out there making 4 position copies of the colt fibrelite stock in green, but all I have seen are for commercial tubes.

Most mil spec stock makers are in the USA (or are built for the USA market) and they typically copy the new-style Colt M4 butt - not the old-style Colt butt that Colt Canada still uses.

There are also die cast aluminum black carbine stocks out there but I don;t think the CF issues them on the A2, which is supposed to be all green.

Well I'll put my all-things-AR15/C7* ignorance on display here.

I haven't had sufficient interest in the nuances of the weapon to even know there are different size tubes - I think he shoots a Stag AR, and no idea how those compare to a C7A2. I wouldn't know what size is on the A2 if my life depended on it - all I'm required to know is my rack number and wpn serial number.

He's already bought an Elcan POS for his faux A2 project, so I guess he'll happily piss away the money on the genuine thing if he can find the buttstock he's looking for. How he found an Elcan with the green rubber armour is beyond me, I wonder if he painted it. Never looked that close.

I wasted an hour this morning idly googling stocks. Saw different colors, different styles, a few I'd like to try as an alternative to the issue one, but nothing that looked exactly like our issue ones. Maybe his Google fu is better than mine, but I suspect he is going to discover finding his buttstock and the other furniture isn't going to be as easy as buying that Elcan.

I don't think his rifle is going to shoot any better because he put a bunch of green bits and pieces on it... My issue rifle doesn't shoot worth a shyte - with anybody behind the trigger - and it's got all kinds of green bits and pieces on it...

i heard somewhere that armseast could put together a convinving copy,
but that was a while back, there a site sponser, give them a shout.

Marstar had the old style CAR 4 position stock a while ago, they've been sold out for a while now. Maybe brownells has some that they can ship north to us.

And ##### and moan about the Elcan as much as you want, go to any service rifle match and see who wins.

Armalite buffer tubes are milspec. Add a RockRiver arms green plastic M4 collapsable stock and black rubber end stock pad and you will have a high quality C7A2 stock facsimile.

very much agreed. I was out at the range last month with our units new C79A2 Elcans (its the Mo takes awhile to get things) and I was shooting just over 1 to 1.5 moa at 100yrds no problem all day. I was very surprised because I had nothing but loose mounts with the older version. Those Elcans with the newer mounts are awesome.

And as for a green buttstock, i think IF you could find a genuine CF one, the amount of money you would pay, not to mention if it was legally obtained, you could buy a way more versatile and better stock for the same price. Just buy an OD CTR and call it an "improved C7A2" lol :D

I don't believe colt canada/ diemaco makes the plastic furniture.

been in the plant, seen their whole setup, a couple times. don't recall seeing a plastics section unless we skipped it.
there was palimer stuff there though. in the R&D section and vault.

the only way you're gonna attain genuine colt canada or older diemaco parts is from govt source, police armourer, or from them, which they don't sell to public. even then who cares, go buy green basic furniture and add a rubber butt pad. make a c7a2 or c8a2 copy from dlask 30 anniversary lower and upper. good prices and its got all the markings that are desirable. the bayonets are common.

the butt pads are green and the plastic is farmed out to the same company that makes the mags just down the road. same company 2 diffrent divisons. why does every one want a c7/c8 clone? if you want to shoot one join the army!

I did join the army - a couple of CD's ago, and back when we were shooting the C1. I'm still in.

The guy who is trying to build a replica joined the army too, did a couple of CD's worth of service, so he put his time in as well.

I don't think he really has to justify to anybody why he wants to build a C7A2 clone with his TI. In fact, why would anyone have to justify why they wanted to build some type of firearm on CGN?
