Is the Cooey 84 the same as the Winchester 37a?

It should be marked on the shotgun what lenght shell it fired.My guess is that they were all 3 inch.I base this on the fact that Winchester introduced the 3 inch .410 shell sometime in the 1930s.So by 1948 when the Cooey Model 84 was introduced I would think that the Cooey Model 84 would be chambered to handle the longer shell.Just my opinion however.

Ranger, McLeod's, Marshall Wells, Hiawatha and likely a view more that i can't recall at this time they were all cooeys or winchester 37A. or 370 just depends on the time line.

I bought my first shotgun in the summer of '79. It was a 20 g. Winchester 37-A. Paid $45.95 at Le Baron in MTL. Still use it to this day as my beat up truck gun on my trapline. It's responsible for 25-40 grouse a year. Since 1979 was the last year of production, I guess I was lucky, todays youngsters can buy something that's a piece of crap compared to a 37-A and pay near $200.

My first gun was a 410.I got it in 1967 or 8.It is 3 in. and has a 5 digit serial #.If I had to speculate I'd guess that numbering started with the Winchester take over.Mine was used in new condition.#89###.

The winchester 37 that many Americans grew up with look similar but the hammer is behind the barrel lever.

The Winchester Model 37 is a very different shotgun than the Cooey based Model 370 or 37A.

Just completed the transfer of mine with CFC. They said the serial number seems short, so someone will be calling me to ask a few questions. It's five digits 38### (I've obviously left out the last three numbers to be safe).
I wonder what to expect from these guys...

I've got an old massecheusettes (Yeah I spelled it wrong but you get it) arms company single shot wih no serial number, just the 1922 mfg date on it. Guess what became the serial number...
