Is the CZ 75 SP01 Shadow significantly different than the regular CZ 75?

Looking to purchase my first handgun soon (when my PAL is finally approved, 2 months and counting now :mad: ).

Just took the Silvercore Handgun 1 training (highly recommended!)

Anyways, during the course I got to handle the Glock 17, S&W MP, Sig Sauer P226 and a CZ75. I was previously thinking of getting the CZ75 SP-01 Shadow based on the online and magazine reviews. However, when I was actually firing them during the course, I found myself liking the Sig Sauer P226 much better. I found the CZ75 had more recoil/muzzle flip than the Sig, which seemed odd since most reviews stated that the CZ75 had less recoil due to the steel construction...accuracy was equal between the two, but I found the Sig felt better overall in my hands. Anyways, I'm wondering if there is noticeable difference between the regular CZ75 and the SP-01 shadow variant? They did not have a SP-01 shadow for me to try unfortunately so I'm not sure if it was a fair comparison between the regular CZ75 and the Sig p226. Thanks in advance!
 
Take note of the pictures of both models. There's a LOT of difference. Full section slide instead of cutaways at the muzzle and full length heavy frame with full dust cover and pic rail. So the Shadow is a lot more muzzle heavy. The Shadow is something like 2 or 3 oz heavier. And it's pretty much all in the front where it aids in holding down the recoil rise.

How the grips fill the hand play a big part in the felt and observed recoil pulse and rise. If your hands do not have an even pressure along the full length of the back strap of the frame then it will allow the gun to move more within your hands. And once it gets moving it takes a lot more to get it to stop. And you'll feel that as felt recoil and see it as more sight picture flip. It may be something as simple as the Sig simply fits your hands better.

Or since you're new perhaps you didn't hold the CZ with as proper a grip as you did with the Sig. There's SO many things that can enter into this and produce the felt differences you noticed.
 
^Thanks! Will see if I can have a chance to handle the SP-01 shadow variation. If not, I was pretty happy with the Sig. My wife liked the S&W MP and will likely get that one.
 
I love boh pistols....my shadow has he thin grips on, fits my hands beautifully..nice low bore axis, hi viz front post, great 3.2 lb trigger, great weight...shoots where you point it.. My p226 is different, higher bore axis, lighter, hogue rubber grips which make it a little fatter, crisp but heavier trigger, again hi viz front post ( green ) ....still shoots great, and where you point it.. I've always found more muzzle flip with the sig, but it comes back on target prety quickly....
It really depends on what you plan to do with them...for me, outright best target shooter the shadow wins, but honestly, I run twice the number of rounds through the sig, just super fun to shoot...when funds allow get both, you won't be disappointed with either....I had the np-22 first, then shadow ( great quality ) and traded the norc for the sig...going to the dark side next....lol ( getting a glock )
 
I've shot a CZ SP-01 Shadow a fair bit, didn't quite fit my hand that well but it was a friends gun and he has little girly hands, so grips were too thin for my liking.

Shot awesome, amazing trigger, but my only major dislike is the very low and slim slide profile, compared to almost every other pistol out there it gives you very little to grasp to rack the slide.

Go out to DVC in poco and shoot their shadow, ain't the cheapest place to go but going there an shooting my top three choices helped me choose my 1st pistol. Actually my next one as well, which will be the cz 85 combat. Bought an m&p9 as the first one.

And that design also allows the support hand to grip higher on the frame. Racking is just one small action that can easily be trained to one of the other methods to compensate for it. But having the ability to get a higher grip on the pistol will aid in the primary role of a pistol which is shooting.

Thanks for the tip! Didn't know DVC had a shadow in stock. Will try to go out there to try it out. Called RCMP firearms office today for update on my application, said they were waiting for references, so I got my reference to call in. Hopefully should get my PAL soon :)


edit: if not, my wife has given me permission to buy both :)
 
Since pretty much everyone and their dog uses a shadow in IPSC production(myself included) it should be easy to ask someone for a test ride. You honestly can't compare it to a standard 75. It blows it away.
