Hey,

Just wondering if anyone knows if it is safe to shoot the new fiocchi 44 russian ammo in the old S&W DA guns.
I read that these loads are loaded to 850 FPS, but I dont have any frame of reference for this.

Could anyone help with suggestions?

Its 820 Fps thats what i was told.
I ordered 5 boxes will try it in a few of my SAA keepers frist then the S&W DA.
I think as long as the leads no to hard it will be OK theres another company in Canada selling reloaded 44 russian ammo but they use really hard lead bullets same hardness as there other modern ammos lead which will wear down your bores faster in the old guns.
800+ FPS is not to bad but its getting up there i know a few guys were shooting + 800 FPS Reloads in the old S&W SA antique models but that was a powder that had a slow presure curve.
I will try the fiochhi 44 russian in a 44 sp SAA colt frist and see what it cronos at in the real world.
ive never seen what powder they use in fiochhi 455 MKII ammo listed anywhere which is really important to know the presure it would make. There ammo is loaded for old guns so they must take that into account.

The winchester Cowboy 44 Sp ammo is loaded to about 740 Fps or so. so this Fiochhi 44 Russian is hotter than that cowboy 44 Sp i dont know what FPS the fiochhi 44 sp is loaded at.

I say a big Thumbs up to Canada Ammo for getting some in as its nice to just buy loaded ammo then you get the cases to reload if you want.
I can shoot the stuff in a colt if i think its to hot i will just reload my normal 5 grs of unique loads for the top break S&Ws.
I hope they get in other ammos that Fiochhi makes runs of like 10.4 italian and some of the other harder to find cartridges.

I ordered 500 rounds from them special order. Maybe they are going to stock it now? I haven't tried it with my SAA yet. Since you volunteered to test on your guns I will wait for your results. ;)

Well my SAA keepers have newer cylinders and i shoot hotter 44 Sp outa them now than this fiochhi 44 Russian.
I think its abit hot for the break action S&W DAs if you were shooting it ALOT a few boxes might be fine but i think as a freind of mine said that it would be better in the solid frame guns like saa colts

Shoot the stuff in your solid frame guns then reload the empty cases for the break action type guns is what i am adviseing at this point till i get it and test it on a cronograph.

I just got my frist 5 boxes tonight and it says 820 Fps and the bullets are 247 Rn gzn typical Fiochhi looking bullets.
At least the brass looks good for reloading large pistol primers to.
Looks good.
I will try and get out in the next week to try it out.
I still think in the S&W DAs that the standard 5 grs of unique is a much better safer load than this stuff.
Id shoot this stuff in my bisley or SAA colt no problem tho.
might be fine in the S&W to we will see.
I did check the lead for hardness and can make a grove in it with my thumb nail so its not to hard at all.
So thats a good thing for the older guns.

So I decided to pull a round apart to see what the bullet and powder looked like. The bullet has no lube grooves, but has a hollow base. The powder is in the shape of small, flat squares, about 3mm square. There was exactly 5 grains of powder.
