Is the Norinco 1911 reliable and well-built?

Well let China do it, why would i want to pay threw the nose for american made when i can get a good gun for less, just think of it as a mail order bride lol.

Are you suggesting that Chinese products were crap 20 years ago, but represent quality now? If so, maybe you missed the news reports over the last couple years concerningtoys and foods. For although the Chinese could "buy modern technology and build a facility with ISO level quality control and output", their firearms exports are proof that they have not in fact done so.
I am not suggesting that every chinese made product, or gun is substandard, but I have seen enough newly purchased chinese made guns that did not work to refute any suggestion that they have some type of reasonable quality control in place.

Nope, there is still lots of junk coming out. I am saying that judging a product by where it was manufactured instead of on it's merits is stupid. I don't own a Norc (yet), but I likely will. From what I have read on these forums, the 1911's and Sig copies are decent products, the M305 is spotty and has had some measurable issues and the Type 54 (I think it was) was poor at best. YMMV

I bought a Nork 1911 from marstar a year ago and compared to my other 1911's i was completly disgusted :puke::puke::puke: by the quality of it or rather lack of.At any price point i wasn't impressed!!!I'm sure marstar would have taken care of me warranty wise if i complained (no i didn't because i wanted to keep the frame and slide for a future build )so i can in no shape or form complain about marstar,but i sure was dissapointed with norinco and the mettlurgy of the small parts and barrell:(:(:(:confused::confused::confused::(:(

How I read the post is that Chinese products have come a long way in 20 years. Yes, the Chinese can "buy modern technology and build a facility with ISO level quality control and output" and this has been done in some industries that demand it such as precision electonics. Their firearms industry hasn't stepped up because this would negate their 'competitive edge' because they would have to raise prices accordingly and they know that this is not what the masses want. The masses want CHEAP, meaning functional and affordable.

I said to myself a long time ago that I would not buy a Norinco firearm. Boy, have times changed because I just ordered a 1911 from Can Am. What the He||, I figure I may as well check one out close and personal and judge for myself. The biggest reason for me not buying a Norinco product was North China Industries Corp. sold arms to oppressive governments but, you know what? So does the US, Canada and other European countries...And they have been doing it for while............................

no it was a typo on the word mettlurgy (sorry for misspell),as far as hardness before we even go there, try dimensional correctness of parts.....completly out of spec.Sorry for grammer error as english is not the best im sorry,i meant mettlurgy as it'' sounds ''or ''read ''not as i spelled im sorry for the confusion hope you understand.
 
I definately agree with the old adage saying of you get what you pay for.Now that is out of the way,i still was not impressed with the quality at any price point,and yes i have owned both ''Springers"and M.I.M.ber's oooops do you detect some sarcasm with spelling (I Meant "Kimber's)!!!:evil:

Recheck your specs.........Springers have MIM parts, as do STI,Para,etc.

It is funny, however, that despite there being so many post about rinco quality and the topic beaten to death many times over, each new question about rinco quality elicits another flood of page after page of posts and same type of arguments.....some hate it and some love it.

I just overcame some notions and ordered my first. I can't say whether I love them or hate them until I get mine. I want to see if I can build a better pistol out of it for less money than the Para SSP. Now, if you want to talk about hate.....let's talk about the "Wedgies" I got while being lectured about the "Para-normal" slide peening. :rolleyes:
 
The constantly recurring questions from newbies about Norinco quality have to do with typical purchasing behaviour: those on a fence with tight budget want to be reassured that the gun they are leaning to buy is good choice and their purchase isn't a waste of money. The ones who already purchased them, it is a typical post-purchase behariour: they need constant reassurance that the choice their made was a good choice which then reduces cognitive dissonance and increases a personal satisfaction. This type of questions about Norinco quality will continue indefinitely and people will continue to start new threads about it until China is declared a country of tight quality control and superior products.
 
Fit and finish has improved over the years compared to the original shipments. The 1911 series pistols have a history of being reliable but you can not say that about all firearms from Norinco. It's hit and miss.
 
Can't comment on other Norc products but my M305 is great. I've owned 3 Norc 1911s. All have fuctioned perfectly with no problems. My last one was a Commander, it was finished much better than the previous ones and was VERY accurate. I've got a tuned up Colt and have owned other Colts so I have something to compare. Other than the big Chinese star on the side they're very good pistols. I'd recomend anyone bashing them to pick up a new one and check it out.
