Hi all,

I would like to replace the complete BCG of my Norinco AR15 with a DPMS one or with any bolt made in USA but I heard that Chinese parts could not be mil-spec and not interchangeble with mil-spec parts Made in USA.
I took measures of the DPMS and Norinco bolt (all measures are in mm.)
Just comparing the measures do you think is it still safe for me to replace the Norinco bolt with the DPMS one ?
Thank you.

Here are the measures I took

The short answer is your bolt is fine.

Thank you for your answer, Blastattack. That's what I wanted do be sure of.
I had posted same question in a US forum and someone suggested me to post the same question in a Canadian forum since you have experience with Chinese Norinco products which is not distributed to US market.

My "non-milspec" Alberta Tactical AR-15 shot circles around my "mil-spec" AR-15. Just sayin'.

Yeah, but you like don't get it man, the composition of the aluminum alloys and the tacticaly high price tags with the moderator densities of the bolt face lugs you know!!

......and THAT is why my really expensive AR and my ##### is way better than yours :D

That has more to do with the barrel and trigger than anything else. Strangely enough the hammer forged barrels on the Norinco when free floated and fed decent ammo are 1 moa accurate. Which is better than many of the "milspec" rifles as well.

Milspec meh. It means nothing!! Psst wanna buy a Ice brand BCG? It's coated!! Never shot and only cracked once! :nest:

The reason "mil-spec" is significant is that there actually IS a spec.

I would take mil-spec over most other options simply because you know it has passed a certain minimum standard. Non-milspec stuff may be better, but in most cases it's not being called mil-spec because it wouldn't even pass the minimum standard.

Can you get away with using non-mil-spec stuff? Hell yes. I do. But if I could have stuff that is, at a minimum, certified to exceed a standard required by a major organization interested in reliability and functionality, then I would prefer that over something that does not meet that standard.

Will a custom rifle that doesn't adhere to milspec standards potentially be more accurate than a by-definition-milspec Colt M4? Almost certainly.
Will it give up some other qualities to achieve that level of accuracy? Almost certainly.

As far as the OP goes, I don't particularly trust Norinco BCGs. But I would rather have a Norinco BCG than a DPMS BCG.

My norinco barrel is more accurate then other "MIL SPEC" not too high end barrels I have... Almost shocking but so far it's still amaze me...

THe problem with the norinco BCG is the gas key/gas tube. Check out if your DPMS gas key will fit the norinco gas tube. Mine does not. No other BCG I have fit the norinco gas tube... If I brake my norinco BCG I will have to change the tube so I can use "normal to spec" carriers on the market.

Cheers.

I forget who said it but: "Mil-spec = the best quality you can get for the lowest price". By that token, yeah, Norc is more mil-spec then any other rifle on the market.

What is the reason of replacing something that is working?

Actually I have here 2 Bushmaster Ar15 and 3 Colt Ar15.
I bought a Norinco upper receiver 12" barrel just because we can't get here that size barrels from USA (export from USA is for barrels not shorter than 16").
I completely disassembled the Norinco upper and put away almost all the Chinese parts ... I hate them 'cause of they very poor and cheap finish, but of course not the barrel and its barrel extension.
I assembled the barrel with an American Cerro Forge made upper receiver, with a Daniel Defense rail, I changed gas tube etc etc and I wanted to replace also the Chinese BCG with an American one and I use this upper with a Bushmaster lower receiver.
You can check yourself how poor and low quality are the Chinese finish of the upper I bought ...

This is the final result of the new upper receiver with the Norinco barrel 12"

That's true. Also my Norinco gas tube was larger and the America BCG could not fit over the Chinese gas tube.
I removed Norinco front sight and gas tube and installed a low profile Vltor gas tube with a spec gas tube.
