Is the stock on my Norinco HP9-1 hollow or solid?

I have a side sling mount on my WC +1 mag extension. I would like to dremel 2 narrow slots into the stock, near and parallel to the recoil pad to thread my sling through.

Is the stock solid or is it hollow?

Take the two screws out of the buttpad, and have a peek inside.

It's hollow like the standard REM stock.

Off topic, does your stock's recoil pad smell strongly of smoky rubber? That's one of the things that really bugged me about the HP9-1. A set of hogue overmolded fixed that!

Thats is the crude carbon black AKA charcoal.

Yup! Smells like a good old Ontario used tire dump fire

It smells almost as bad as the grips on my NP-29!

But damn both the HP9-1 and the NP-29 work well for such small bucks.

Since the stock is hollow, I'll have to figure out another way to side mount a rear sling mount.
