Is the su-16 kel-tec durable?

I'd only trust the Tactical version.... Totally a different gun in comparison to the folder models. Much like the SUB 2000 gen 2 is vastly superior to the Gen 1. My buddy's SU 16 TAC has been nothing short of amazing. I actually enjoy shooting it more than AR 15s believe it or not! That being said, if these new WK 180c's work out.... Idk why someone would buy a SU 16 TAC over one of them.

Durable as trust it when I need it? No. Durable as in plinker and fun light gun, yes. I've had a few kel-tec of various models over the years, and I no longer have them. Fun guns yes, but I don't trust them. Having had two of them needing warranty services right out of the gate, dealing with warranty is a long waiting cycle and pain in the butt.

Very fast trigger and cycle time, fun rifle, but way over priced.

The only real issue with kel-tec is that if by chance you need warranty repair, it's only available to the original owner with a receipt.
Bottom line is keep your receipt and if possible try and pass the receipt along with the gun if you do decide to sell.

If I was buying a used kel-tec ,without a receipt, I would be looking for a serious reduction in price.

The receiver of my SU-16 broke after only 500 rounds. Been out for repair since August 2017.

Mine is the SU-16 Tactical, same receiver.

Nut'n isn't paid by anybody, that's one of the reasons I like his channel.
I'd pay to not watch him

The mini14 is a better choice. But Muh 10rd pistol mags, I'll take 5rds that don't jam and hit paper over 10rds that shotgun pattern when it's working, from a rifle built from dried playdough.
Yes, I used to own one.

I found my mini-14 was fine, and ran ok, accurate offhand for what I expected of it... but my SU16 was definitely more accurate.

I would get a consistent 3" out of my Mini, and just under 2" with my SU. (same scope on both)

I like sharing mags with my other guns, and I prefer a straight insert mag of the SU-16 to the rock and lock of the mini.

The mini-14 is certainly a higher quality gun, and built stronger... but mine was heavier, less accurate, and ergonomically worse (until I put the Hogue stock on which in turn added weight gain)

I bought one around x mass time and so far it's been good. The one I got is the ar look a like and not the one with the folding stock
I don't think I'd shoot it when it's minus 20 out though
For what it is I think it's a good product. The new wolverine/ kodiak offering is probably going to be the better of the two once it's released

Hello everyone! :)

Thank you all so much for the advice you gave me. I sold the su-16 and got most of my money back. A word of warning to anyone considering the su-16. Not only did my rifle's stock break on the first day and then take over 3 months for the warranty but the gun started rusting after only being fired 70 times (with non corrosive ammo) even after being cleaned and oiled thoroughly. Lastly the gun in my opinion feels like a toy it had very cheap flimsy construction and felt like it would break in my hands ever time I picked it up.

Again thank you so much guys cheers!

OH boy....I have had 2 su16 rifles. They are accurate, shoot fast & are fun ! But while I was at the range shooting it......the fellow beside me had the pistol version & his blew out the Back End ! WOW...it gave me a queezy feeling right then. I just couldnt get over a 223 bullet surrounded by cheap plastic. I always had visions of getting the bolt in my Face. And like others have said,..they are WAY over priced & there are sooo many other new non restricteds on the market made out of actual metal. Sorry, a thumbs down from me, I like my face the way it is,...warranty isnt gonna fix that.

If you have lots of black rifles in 5.56, it's ok to keep a Kel-Tek as part of a collection. I certainly would myself. However if you have and only want one or two rifles in that caliber and you want reassurance about durability and longevity, I would jettison any Kel-Tek as soon as possible and look at almost anything else.
