Is the takedown feature of the Ruger PC Carbine a weakness?

I'm really considering the Ruger PC Carbine in 9mm, and was wondering if any owners could chime in and offer their opinion on whether the takedown feature of the carbine is in any way a weakness? I wish it was just a standard non-takedown carbine, since in my mind it's extra variables introduced unnecessarily, for little to no gain. Just my opinion, not that it matters.

Anyway, does it seem likely that this takedown feature will age well? Is the design robust?

Thanks

They’re super popular along with the 10/22 take down ... tons of YouTube videos of people loving these.

There are older versions rarely seen on the used market that are not takedowns and do not take Glock mags .... factory barrels make them restricted as they’re a little shorter though.

IMO, it's a fairly pointless feature. Particularly with receiver mounted optics and varying degrees of zero shift.

I'd rather have it with a fixed barrel and folding stock.

I've never had a reason to take mine down other than to see how it works.

Not sure they are as accurate as a fixed barrel rifle.
They also can be finicky mounting glass and holding '0'.
Great for plinking...but they're not gonna do 1/2"@50yds.

I love the takedown feature. It fits into a 20" toolbox or tripod case and is a great truck/pack gun. In my experience the factory irons are quite good and whatever shift in zero there may be from a receiver mounted optic are negated by the accuracy limits of 9mm, and if it really bothers you a barrel mount aftermarket part is available.

I like mine. TD feature is great for a tractor gun. I am surprised at how good it shoots. I have only used home brewed ammo with 124 LEE cast bullets. Not sure why the fuss about the takedown part. If you don’t want or like a takedown, simple - don’t buy one. I also have a TD 10/22. It always goes with me in car or truck.

I just got mine so this feedback is based on fairly limited ownership. But from my perspective, I like the takedown for practical reasons - it fits into my smaller double carbine rifle bag, and I don't have to buy another longer bag to accommodate.

I do like the methodology of taking down, as opposed to my Keltec Sub2K of folding. I can keep my red dot on the Ruger while taking it apart. Also, I can see some advantages with the cleaning as well when the time comes. To put it together securely in really only two movements, is much quicker than my ASR, where I have to screw in the threaded barrel.

not as accurate as a fixed barrel design, however the ease of disassembly, and the compact storage is more than an acceptable tradeoff in a 9mm pcc. It's not exactly an ai in 338 lapua. within 50m i didn't notice any serious poi shift out of the pc carbine. If that's acceptable to you, then you're set.

Has anyone actually measured a shift in POI after take down/ reassembly? I haven't noticed any difference but let us know if you have!

Never measured, but I have seen it. Maybe an inch or two at 50m from what I remember? It's not a big "distance", but it's not zero. Pressure on the fore-end, like from leaning into a bag, can make a significant deviation as well.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to trying this red dot mount out tomorrow. Being barrel mounted, take-down shouldn't be an issue.

I suppose if one used it as a precision rig any play would be an issue. Since it's a 9mm PCC who cares. I can hit a 6" plate at 50 yards 99% of the time, and the 1% is user error and not axis shift....

I like the takedown feature. I can carry it in my backpack discreetly. I live in condo in the city and I don't want people to know I have firearms in my apartment.
