Nope get a VZ-58 instead! The type 81 although interesting and very AKish in its handling and design, is in my humble opinion a piece of cr*p. The accuracy is abhorrent at best, your run of the mill SKS will match or better it! Not to mention, you might as well buy 2 if your thinking of buying one, because they won't be getting in anymore spare parts or guns. So if you buy 2 Type 81's (one as a parts gun), you could get for the same amount of $ a completely pimped out VZ-58 with an optic and spare parts to boot! Same thing for mags once your break one or your spring wears out, good luck!

im in 100% agreement with this except for the piece of crap and magazine part. I wouldnt say its a piece of crap, id simply say its a $500 gun maybe, priced at $1000... and as for mags, AK mags can be modified to work flawlessly with 5 minutes of grade 8 level shop work haha

Not crap, but not $1,000 rifle neither. It's a range toy, not a combat tool and I certainly wouldn't hunt anything with it past 75m. Horribly inaccurate.
And don't believe the "this is the final order/last shipment" hype. Dealer in question, when they are not deleting user posts in their own forums, has an established history of supply manipulation. Willing to bet that some more rifles will suddenly appear a few months from now, with some kind of nonsensical explanation about how they exclusively managed to get more. Zero credibility.
If you do go down the T81 path (btw I've owned both and the VZ is a striker fired design and by far a better build), be sure you get your hands on one that is NOT BENT. A lot of brand new ones shipped that way. Many stories on this matter, a quick search here will reveal.

Not crap, but not $1,000 rifle neither. It's a range toy, not a combat tool and I certainly wouldn't hunt anything with it past 75m. Horribly inaccurate.

In spite of all the negatives and they are valid except for the mags, there are plenty of mags, I bot a pile of them for $20 each.
To answer the question, is it worth it? That's very subjective and the answer is probably not but i bot one anyways.
That's the same I felt with the vz58. Remember, we use to pay half for a cz858 or the czh about 15 years ago and we got more mags and accessories with it.

Buyers honestly shouldnt be concerned about receiving a bent rifle unless they intent on mounting an optic to the receiver. The bent rifles shoot the same as the less bent ones. Its pretty much a characteristic of the firearm. Where it comes from, how it was made and a shining example of the challenges Armys face with mass implementing equipment to millions of soldiers.

3. Stock out/last shipment is likely just marketing.
4. The rifle is spray n pray whether bent or not.
5. There are better 7.62x39 options out there but if you want an AK but can't afford a Valmet the T81 is it.

I was willing to pay the $999 price tag to have a scratch at the perpetual AKM/AK itch. My SKS's as cool as they are and as happy as I am with them didn't do it for me. My Czech wonder, which is awesome didn't have that AK feel in the action. I've been drooling over AK's since I can remember and so I have read up on the american forums how they can have slightly misaligned trunnions but are still made to military acceptance spec (alot of AK's have canted front sights as well)...
The Type 81 is no Polytech AK (if it was an AK we wouldn't have it), but they share similar complaints and praises by those who have them, so for me the Type 81 with its good, bad and ugly stamped out on old world tooling scratched the itch nicely.
It's not worth $1,000, but the demand, the nostalgia and the lineage on the 81 will probably keep it at that price point or a little more. Most of the complaints people have are legit. Yes, it's Chinese, but it's not Chinese Crap. It is what it is and it grows on me...I like it

Took my new type 81 out for a few shots yesterday. Not a serious range session though as I was out cutting firewood and took a few minutes to put a couple rounds through it for fun.
Overall I’m happy with it. It’s a bit rough in the fit and finish department but it’s a solid gun as far as I can tell so far. I guess I’m lucky as mines not bent like Ive that read a lot can be. I don’t think it’s in the same level as other guns at the $1000 mark, my cz scorpion wasn’t much more and is a work of art compared to the type 81 , but it fills that desire for an AK-like rifle. Really to me the best thing is it’s basically a better ergonomic version of the sks. I love my old sks and enjoy shooting it a lot so the type 81 gives me that same level of enjoyment in a better handling and cooler looking package. Kudos to Tactical Imports as well for quick shipping. Was my first purchase from them and I was happy with the process.

I thought the same thing until I got mine, it’s similar in function but it is better than an sks. The rotating bolt makes it much smoother to shoot. A guy Can’t really go wrong with it though as they sell used for more than they cost new. In the end it comes down to what a guy wants as far as his collection or interests goes. Ya an sks will shoot about the same but so will a savage axis compared to a Remington 700 , if we only bought guns that were vastly different to any other gun on the market we would have quite a boring hobby in the end.
You got a fixed or folder stock? I have a fixed one,i didnt shoot it much but i like it very much. Utilitarian finish but decently assembled and isnt bent as other Type 81 were. Yes is expensive at $1000 but i wanted one so i got one.
I shake my head every time someone calls the type 81 an expensive SKS or that its basically an AK.
Cus its absolutely not. Pretty much the only design characteristic it shares with the SKS is the fact that its charging handle is round lol.
